"Daring greatly means the courage to be vulnerable. It means to show up and be seen. To ask for what you need. To talk about how you’re feeling. To have the hard conversations."- Brené Brown. Counseling can feel intimidating, nerve-racking, and desperate; I get it. And the reality is we cannot live life alone and we cannot heal alone. We need each other for support, encouragement, empowerment and restoration. My role as a counselor is to partner with you in your journey toward integrated wholeness and health and to provide you a safe space to be vulnerable, courageous, real and imperfect; for you to come as you are and to just be.

My counseling approach centers the client through compassionate presence and I draw from a mix of humanistic orientation, multicultural counseling, career counseling, feminist theory, relational-cultural theory, Internal Family Systems, positive psychology, cognitive behavioral therapy, spirituality, creativity, mindfulness, and trauma-informed theory.
Finding the right therapist can be difficult, maybe you have asked yourself questions like “will they “get” me?”, “do they know what it’s like to feel torn in multiple directions?” Or maybe, if you are anything like me, you have asked yourself “is there something wrong with me?”, “where are the therapists that look, even vaguely, like me?” As a half-Asian, bicultural woman of color, I’m passionate about supporting others who live at the intersection of multiple identities.

Are you struggling to make changes in your life and maintain care and compassion for yourself? Are you having trouble with the relationships that matter to you? Helping others build their self-compassion and relational strengths is a true passion of mine. It’s a priority for me to meet my clients where they’re at, but I always work from a trauma-informed, relational, feminist-multicultural perspective. I believe that our habits, patterns, and behaviors make so much sense in the context of what we’ve experienced throughout our lives, and part of supporting our mental wellness is meeting ourselves with kindness and understanding.

I am feminist, HAES aligned, neurodiversity affirming, trauma-informed models like narrative therapy and relational neuroscience.
People endure so much grief and pain before they even consider reaching out to a counselor, as if it says something bad about us because "we need help." Did you know we are biologically designed to "need help"? Traumatic events, personal rejection, perceived failures, and discrimination are just a few of a very long list of things that can make life feel impossible. Trying to cope with these things alone (like we are often told to do) has a profound negative impact on our well-being. I will provide much needed emotional support while we explore what you need to heal from the past and go into each day with more ease and confidence.

I am committed to anti-racist, LGBT+-affirming, feminist practice that examines the complex roles of systems in our lives.
Struggle is a part of life, but our struggles can often make life feel overwhelming, stifling, or meaningless. It’s all too easy to get stuck in patterns of living and relating that feel like endless repetitions of old models that seem to generate more problems than they solve. Whether your goal is healing from traumas, improving relationships, addressing complex mental health concerns, or striving for a deeper and more meaningful understanding of life and yourself, I believe that therapy can be an invaluable tool for exploration, healing, and growth.

I use an approach informed by Interpersonal Neurobiology, Terry Real's Relational Life Therapy and Feminist Psychology.
I work with individuals and couples who are struggling with their relationships or feeling stuck in their lives. I believe it takes courage to show up as our authentic selves, and in our work I encourage clients to stand in their truth and live in a way that feels fulfilling. I work with couples who are experiencing conflict, disconnection, or are recovering from betrayal. I help couples learn relational health by shedding light on dysfunctional patterns, improving communication of needs and feelings, and practicing co-regulation.

With the use of DBT, EMDR, IFS, Black feminist and spiritual based practice, my goal is to help you connect to the parts of yourself that are scared to be loved, don't think they are worth loving, or have given up on love in all of it's forms.
Throughout our life journey, our stories get told by our family, community, oppressive systemic forces, etc. We often lose sight of our story, and therefore lose sight of ourselves. I work with folx who have lost the plot to their own story due to depression, anxiety, PTSD or C-PTSD, and attachment trauma from various painful connections throughout your life that has also made connecting to yourself that much more painful.

I bring elements of feminist theory, social justice theory, attachment theory, and queer theory together with solution-based techniques to create a holistic approach to rewrite your story the way you want it to be.
You’re here, and that’s a huge first step. Finding a non-judgemental, compassionate therapist to share your struggles with isn’t easy, I definitely understand that. Together we’ll tackle those struggles, your desires, your pain points. We’ll fight together within the confines of society to discover your authentic self and learn to share your magic outwardly. Let’s work together to find the relationships you want, the love you want, the sex, the job, the life that brings you joy - the YOU that you want.

My therapeutic approach draws from psychodynamic, person-centered, attachment-based, and feminist theories.
I work with adults and children. I consider my client’s cultural context and values, so that our work together is sensitive, relevant, and respectful of your individuality. My practice is also inclusive and affirming of queer-identified people. I am aware of the ways that one’s intersecting identities can shape their experiences, I am here to offer guidance, validation, and understanding. With children, I provide a space for kids to learn about their feelings, and how to process them. I draw from child-centered play therapy techniques and tailor my approach to honor your child's agency, individual preferences, and interests.

Feminist Therapists

How does feminist therapy work?

Feminist therapy sessions are not only personal but often cultural or political in nature, as the approach is based on the belief that people are affected by, and often struggle with, cultural and societal norms and biases, and need to move beyond those external pressures or stressors to tap their own confidence and engage more fully in their own identity. Sessions may therefore include discussions of sexism, diversity, and gender issues and talk of steps toward greater empowerment for patients who believe they have been silenced and seek to raise their voices.

What are examples of feminist therapy techniques?

Along with traditional talk therapy and analysis, a feminist therapist may employ techniques such as role-playing and assertiveness training to help clients build their self-esteem so that they feel they can act freely, and not based on cultural expectations or gender roles dictated by others. A feminist therapist may also engage in bibliotherapy, offering suggested readings on gender identity or social power inequities as they work toward viewing mental-health concerns through a broad cultural lens before focusing on how they affect the individual. Somatic therapy techniques, with an emphasis on body awareness, self-compassion, and mindfulness practices are also often part of feminist therapist practice.

How long does feminist therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for feminist therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. It may take some time to become comfortable discussing personal issues, but once a client feels they can do so, they could expect therapy to last for a number of months, typically including at least 12 sessions.

Does feminist therapy work?

As a relatively recent therapeutic technique, there is not yet a body of evidence proving the efficacy of feminist therapy. However, the approach is based on proven core principles of talk therapy, with a particular emphasis on developing a therapeutic relationship based on equality and authentic connection between therapist and client and discovering and building on clients’ personal strengths to help them gain a greater sense of personal power and agency.
