I use a combination of talk therapy (person-centered, existential, feminist) and EMDR (eye-movement desensitization therapy, which is used to treat traumas, both big and small) to help my clients process grief and pain and move past the constant anxiety they're feeling and into a more peaceful life full of self-love and compassion.
Do you feel stuck and lost in a loop of negative thoughts and self-doubt? You’re moving through life bogged down in the everyday, but some part of you knows it can be different. You remember feeling empowered, inspired, and excited about life, but you can’t figure out how to get there again. I can help you find yourself again and remember who you are under all those layers of self-doubt, grief, loss, and the needs of others. I love it when my clients re-discover their own light and feel empowered to create the life they deserve.

My therapeutic approaches include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), existential therapy, EMDR, and NET for trauma, feminist therapy, along with mindfulness practices.
Hello everyone, I'm Azadeh, also known as Azi. With nearly a decade of experience as a psychotherapist, I've worked with clients of diverse ages and backgrounds. My focus is on assisting individuals dealing with anxiety and depression, guiding them to discover their inner strength for a happier self. Certified as a trauma and anxiety clinician (CCTP and CCATP), I draw inspiration from quotes like Mary Oliver's "Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?" and “Breathing in, I calm my body. Breathing out, I smile. Dwelling in the present moment, I know this is the only moment.” Thich Nhat Hahn.

I use a relational, intersectional feminist, trauma informed approach to build a strong therapeutic alliance with clients.
It is my honor to work closely with LGBTQ clients and their loved ones. I especially enjoy working with those exploring their gender identity and looking for an affirming place to go on their self-discovery journey. I often work with clients who have experienced religious trauma, intergenerational trauma, sexual trauma, and emotional neglect. Seeking support is hard, so you already have a lot to be proud of! My ongoing goal is to create a practice routed in LGBTQ affirmation, antiracism, antifascism, and radical love for my fellow human.

Rooted in feminist and person-centered theory, my approach to people is that we all have inherent worth and the capability to improve our lives by completely expressing ourselves, even when the world at large seems intent on keeping us down.
Sometimes, life gets hard. Sometimes, life has been hard and it just doesn't seem to stop! I work with older adolescents (10 and above), teens, and adults to help ease some of this toughness. If you struggle with depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, racial issues, grief/loss, trauma, or low self-esteem and confidence, we can work together as a collaborative team to identify areas in your life that you want to see improvement.

With the use of DBT, EMDR, IFS, Black feminist and spiritual based practice, my goal is to help you connect to the parts of yourself that are scared to be loved, don't think they are worth loving, or have given up on love in all of it's forms.
Throughout our life journey, our stories get told by our family, community, oppressive systemic forces, etc. We often lose sight of our story, and therefore lose sight of ourselves. I work with folx who have lost the plot to their own story due to depression, anxiety, PTSD or C-PTSD, and attachment trauma from various painful connections throughout your life that has also made connecting to yourself that much more painful.

My clients come from diverse backgrounds but all have one thing in common: they are bound by past traumas that continue to control their present day. My primary theoretical approach is one of interpersonal and holistic psychology that draws from acceptance and commitment therapy, psychodynamic, existential, feminist, and multicultural counseling work. I use meditative practice and applied mindfulness as well as a holistic trauma model to allow my clients to find peace within themselves while also equipping them with the skills needed to continue their personal growth after therapy is complete.

I utilize a mix of therapeutic approaches including: feminist, attachment based, experiential, somatic, and internal family systems (IFS).
My passion is to help you uproot your trauma rather than just treat symptoms (which can often feel unhelpful and frustrating long-term). I frequently work with complex trauma/complex PTSD, insecure attachment patterns, LGBTQIA+ identities, ADHD, and Autism. Clients often come to me feeling "stuck", deeply misunderstood, repeating painful patterns, having had negative therapy experiences in the past, feeling like "nothing works", and have a history of intellectualizing their feelings. It is my goal to help you work through your trauma, navigate your identity, and feel more present and safe in your every day life.

Feminist Therapists

How does feminist therapy work?

Feminist therapy sessions are not only personal but often cultural or political in nature, as the approach is based on the belief that people are affected by, and often struggle with, cultural and societal norms and biases, and need to move beyond those external pressures or stressors to tap their own confidence and engage more fully in their own identity. Sessions may therefore include discussions of sexism, diversity, and gender issues and talk of steps toward greater empowerment for patients who believe they have been silenced and seek to raise their voices.

What are examples of feminist therapy techniques?

Along with traditional talk therapy and analysis, a feminist therapist may employ techniques such as role-playing and assertiveness training to help clients build their self-esteem so that they feel they can act freely, and not based on cultural expectations or gender roles dictated by others. A feminist therapist may also engage in bibliotherapy, offering suggested readings on gender identity or social power inequities as they work toward viewing mental-health concerns through a broad cultural lens before focusing on how they affect the individual. Somatic therapy techniques, with an emphasis on body awareness, self-compassion, and mindfulness practices are also often part of feminist therapist practice.

How long does feminist therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for feminist therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. It may take some time to become comfortable discussing personal issues, but once a client feels they can do so, they could expect therapy to last for a number of months, typically including at least 12 sessions.

Does feminist therapy work?

As a relatively recent therapeutic technique, there is not yet a body of evidence proving the efficacy of feminist therapy. However, the approach is based on proven core principles of talk therapy, with a particular emphasis on developing a therapeutic relationship based on equality and authentic connection between therapist and client and discovering and building on clients’ personal strengths to help them gain a greater sense of personal power and agency.
