I have named my practice Heart's Desire Hypnosis because I love to help people fulfill their hearts' desires and see their lives transform for the better. I use hypnosis and other modalities (Sound, EFT, NLP, Hypno-waving, guided visualization and mindfulness meditation, Qigong) to help my clients overcome obstacles to their health and happiness. The most common hypnotic applications are smoking cessation, physical and emotional weight release, stress management, meditation instruction, healing from grief and trauma, and intentional living coaching.

I am so glad you found me! Please come as you are with your scars and flaws, hopes and dreams, laughter and screams. Taking the first step to choose therapy takes strength and I am proud of you for getting started! What courage you have displayed by going against the safety of your boundaries, fighting your fears and exposing yourself. I help people change their narrative, thoughts, emotions and behaviors related to internal struggles and pain. I will gladly take that walk and journey with you, in hopes to improve coping strategies and put the discomfort in a better context.

Sigmund Freud once said, “Out of your vulnerabilities will come your strength.” For me, this quote has always encapsulated one of the most important aspects of mental health. I believe that our ability to grow comes from our ability to heal; and for us to heal we need to be able to cope with our deepest struggles. It is in the act of opening up that we make our day-to-day existence an opportunity to develop as people; it’s how we become more resilient, and in the process of being vulnerable with others, we learn to love ourselves.

Worry, sadness, and uncertainty are natural responses to feeling you can't control parts of your life. Often regaining control feels like it requires giving up something else, whether it is time with family and friends, your passions, or last night's sleep. While dark humor, caffeine, and willpower may get you far, you shouldn’t have to give up the best parts of your life to just survive. No matter how you got here, you are the expert on yourself. My responsibility is to create a supportive and attentive space where you can gain perspective and resume growth.

Being human comes with complexities of great loss, love, curiosities and questions. We may reach a point in their experience where they feel like they are not living as their best and most authentic self. This can leave some feeling depressed, anxious, angry and fearful. As well as having ruminating thoughts, social withdrawal and being overwhelmed by it all. While working alongside a therapist, I believe that you can create a healthier and deeper understanding of the self, learn/practice communication skills, and process trauma to navigate and gain depth and perspective on the complexities of life.

How does feminist therapy work?

Feminist therapy sessions are not only personal but often cultural or political in nature, as the approach is based on the belief that people are affected by, and often struggle with, cultural and societal norms and biases, and need to move beyond those external pressures or stressors to tap their own confidence and engage more fully in their own identity. Sessions may therefore include discussions of sexism, diversity, and gender issues and talk of steps toward greater empowerment for patients who believe they have been silenced and seek to raise their voices.

What are examples of feminist therapy techniques?

Along with traditional talk therapy and analysis, a feminist therapist may employ techniques such as role-playing and assertiveness training to help clients build their self-esteem so that they feel they can act freely, and not based on cultural expectations or gender roles dictated by others. A feminist therapist may also engage in bibliotherapy, offering suggested readings on gender identity or social power inequities as they work toward viewing mental-health concerns through a broad cultural lens before focusing on how they affect the individual. Somatic therapy techniques, with an emphasis on body awareness, self-compassion, and mindfulness practices are also often part of feminist therapist practice.

How long does feminist therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for feminist therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. It may take some time to become comfortable discussing personal issues, but once a client feels they can do so, they could expect therapy to last for a number of months, typically including at least 12 sessions.

Does feminist therapy work?

As a relatively recent therapeutic technique, there is not yet a body of evidence proving the efficacy of feminist therapy. However, the approach is based on proven core principles of talk therapy, with a particular emphasis on developing a therapeutic relationship based on equality and authentic connection between therapist and client and discovering and building on clients’ personal strengths to help them gain a greater sense of personal power and agency.
