I approach therapy as a team effort, grounded in trauma-informed, anti-racist, body positive, sex & kink positive, & feminist ideals.
With a background in public service, I have previously served LGBTQIA+ community members, survivors of intimate partner violence and sexual violence, elders experiencing neglect and abuse, and incarcerated people. Areas of special interest include working with people coming to therapy to address anxiety, histories of trauma, navigating adult industries, managing non-monogamous relationships, & destigmatizing sexuality, BDSM, & kink.

I aim to empower clients to achieve mental wellness by providing therapy through a multi-cultural, strength based and feminist perspective.
I work with couples who are committed to improving their relationships and individuals whose goals are to heal from personal or intergenerational traumas, minority related stress such as BIPOC, LGBTQIA and Non-Monogamous identity or relationship stressors. Their ideal goals would be to improve their relationship, learn effective communication skills, manage emotional triggers and learn how to regulate their mood. The objective would be to develop the insight, self-confidence, and concrete skills to shift from feelings of shame, guilt or anger to feelings of empowerment, confidence and love to have healthier lives and relationships.

With a passion for social and racial justice, I'm also grounded in Feminist theory, identity, and intersectionality.
Do you struggle navigating life? Do you wish you could increase your understanding and skills to make life less challenging? The good news is therapy can help you gain control over your life and pursue your dreams. Life is beautiful, but there are many tools that we as humans need to reach our full potential. Low confidence, readiness to change, trouble communicating, and lack of social support are just some barriers that can prevent you from getting “unstuck.” As a member of the Queer community, I empathize with these experiences and I have done intensive work personally and professionally that has changed my life for the better.

My specializations include sex therapy, trauma, and grief and my therapeutic orientation is relational, feminist, and behavioral.
Life transitions often lead us to feel overwhelmed. While people close to us may be supportive, we may not always feel able to share with them our doubts and discomfort. Whether we’re holding our own or a loved one's sexuality or gender identity; navigating changes in our primary relationships, or reflecting on adverse experiences, having a safe space to reflect and process is invaluable. My practice serves adult clients who have struggled with anxiety, live with trauma or grief, or who experience the world as members or allies of the LGBTQ+ community. My approach is conversational, strengths-based, and results-oriented.

If you're hurting right now that doesn't mean something is wrong with you. Many people who work with me learn that the behaviors they want to overcome are normal responses to life’s challenges. That doesn’t mean that you need to get used to sleepless nights, racing thoughts, panic attacks, or depressive episodes. I’ll help you make sense of why you are responding in these ways and together we’ll help you find relief. The work we do will involve radical self-acceptance.

Feminist Therapists

How does feminist therapy work?

Feminist therapy sessions are not only personal but often cultural or political in nature, as the approach is based on the belief that people are affected by, and often struggle with, cultural and societal norms and biases, and need to move beyond those external pressures or stressors to tap their own confidence and engage more fully in their own identity. Sessions may therefore include discussions of sexism, diversity, and gender issues and talk of steps toward greater empowerment for patients who believe they have been silenced and seek to raise their voices.

What are examples of feminist therapy techniques?

Along with traditional talk therapy and analysis, a feminist therapist may employ techniques such as role-playing and assertiveness training to help clients build their self-esteem so that they feel they can act freely, and not based on cultural expectations or gender roles dictated by others. A feminist therapist may also engage in bibliotherapy, offering suggested readings on gender identity or social power inequities as they work toward viewing mental-health concerns through a broad cultural lens before focusing on how they affect the individual. Somatic therapy techniques, with an emphasis on body awareness, self-compassion, and mindfulness practices are also often part of feminist therapist practice.

How long does feminist therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for feminist therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. It may take some time to become comfortable discussing personal issues, but once a client feels they can do so, they could expect therapy to last for a number of months, typically including at least 12 sessions.

Does feminist therapy work?

As a relatively recent therapeutic technique, there is not yet a body of evidence proving the efficacy of feminist therapy. However, the approach is based on proven core principles of talk therapy, with a particular emphasis on developing a therapeutic relationship based on equality and authentic connection between therapist and client and discovering and building on clients’ personal strengths to help them gain a greater sense of personal power and agency.
