Supporting individuals in their personal evolution, assisting them in developing healthier coping mechanisms, and enhancing self-awareness and self- acceptance is my calling. I enjoy collaborating with anyone who is committed to personal growth and open communication; though as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, I particularly enjoy working with others in the queer community. I have 12 years of experience providing support to individuals and families facing a broad range of challenges including depression, anxiety, medical issues, end-of-life care/hospice, recovery from abusive situations, trauma, and significant life changes.

Life can be hard. No matter how healthy, smart, hardworking or successful we may be, we can find ourselves facing unexpected challenges and feeling overwhelmed or confused. I work with adults of all ages and walks of life. Some are depressed or anxious or angry or grieving. Some want to grow or understand themselves better. If you want to grow; if you are struggling; if your challenge is too complex to work through on your own; if you do not want to burden family or friends; then working with a therapist can be helpful and emotionally safe.

I bring a postmodern, feminist, affirming approach grounded in bringing forward the thoughts and processes that drive our decision-making.
I see therapy as the process of learning to tap into your inner source of strength. I get that looking inward isn't always easy, so that's where I come in. Partnering with your own intuition, self-compassion and humor, we will work together to create and help you embody your unique vision of your best self. I provide a safe space for you to explore your experiences, understand your inner self and learn practical coping strategies. As a therapist with ADHD, I have a unique perspective that enriches my practice and allows me to connect with you on a deeply empathetic level. I am a neurodiversity and LGBTQIA+ affirming clinician.

I enjoy working with adults and teens 15 years and older. My previous experience involves working with several populations in the community, including members of the LGBTQIA+ community, survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, and clients with substance use diagnoses (including those with co-occurring mental health diagnoses). As a therapist, my ultimate goal is to create a safe space where everyone I see feels heard, seen, and accepted in order to facilitate real change through a collaborative approach.

My therapeutic style is guided by a trauma-informed lens, rooted in feminist multicultural therapy.
Life and change are hard. You are burdened by all of the expectations around you; work, family, and cultural pressures to act/live your life a certain way. Maybe you feel like you don’t fully belong and you’re stressed. I bet that you’re also having a hard time feeling happy. I help my clients live a more authentic life for themselves while also honoring their values and culture. My goal is to support you in gently peeling back the layers, navigating what life throws your way, and teaching you skills to manage all of the stress.

What I feel I have to offer people is a helpful relationship based on acceptance and safety. My hope is always that together within this supportive relationship you can feel free to explore your thoughts, feelings, strengths, challenges and choices. I've found that understanding and accepting where we are gives us a strong foundation to sustain positive change. In over 30 years of professional experience, I've never worked with a person whose conditions/situations did not make sense, once these experiences have been understood.

Trauma is a normal reaction of the brain to an abnormal event, causing a stagnation that does not allow us to enjoy our present life. The problem around the word trauma is the stigma that follows it, defining it as something shameful. Consequently, this stigma prevents us from reaching out for help. My clinical experience includes working with individuals, family, and couples suffering from anxiety, depression, grief, divorce/separation, trauma symptoms such as PTSD, emotional, neglect, and sexual abuse, family dynamics, racial and gender discrimination, , including LGBTQIA+, and immigration trauma.

Reaching out for help can be scary. Sometimes we have to do the scary thing when we want more for ourselves. I hear again and again from my clients that after they asked for help, some of weight they had been carrying around came off. I hope the same will be true for you.

We all need a place where we can feel safe and validated with our emotions/life transitions. It can be difficult to open-up and talk about life-stressors to a stranger. Sometimes, we can feel unheard or alone, or just need someone who can be a helping, compassionate, and nonjudgmental ear. In therapy, we can mend fractured and fragmented pieces of ourselves that have been damaged by past relationships, and trauma. Together, we can bring out positive change in our lives; we can challenge negative cognitions and dissonance. Together, we can begin the path of healing.

How does feminist therapy work?

Feminist therapy sessions are not only personal but often cultural or political in nature, as the approach is based on the belief that people are affected by, and often struggle with, cultural and societal norms and biases, and need to move beyond those external pressures or stressors to tap their own confidence and engage more fully in their own identity. Sessions may therefore include discussions of sexism, diversity, and gender issues and talk of steps toward greater empowerment for patients who believe they have been silenced and seek to raise their voices.

What are examples of feminist therapy techniques?

Along with traditional talk therapy and analysis, a feminist therapist may employ techniques such as role-playing and assertiveness training to help clients build their self-esteem so that they feel they can act freely, and not based on cultural expectations or gender roles dictated by others. A feminist therapist may also engage in bibliotherapy, offering suggested readings on gender identity or social power inequities as they work toward viewing mental-health concerns through a broad cultural lens before focusing on how they affect the individual. Somatic therapy techniques, with an emphasis on body awareness, self-compassion, and mindfulness practices are also often part of feminist therapist practice.

How long does feminist therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for feminist therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. It may take some time to become comfortable discussing personal issues, but once a client feels they can do so, they could expect therapy to last for a number of months, typically including at least 12 sessions.

Does feminist therapy work?

As a relatively recent therapeutic technique, there is not yet a body of evidence proving the efficacy of feminist therapy. However, the approach is based on proven core principles of talk therapy, with a particular emphasis on developing a therapeutic relationship based on equality and authentic connection between therapist and client and discovering and building on clients’ personal strengths to help them gain a greater sense of personal power and agency.
