Life is messy, complex, and full of paradoxes. It is not easy to navigate life’s highs and lows, much less create a peaceful and authentic life in a world that often feels confusing and chaotic. My hope as a counselor is to provide a space that ultimately allows you to access your intrinsic strengths needed to design the life you truly want. I can join you on your journey to heal from trauma, unlearn patterns of suffering, and reconnect to your values. I am a Certified IFS Therapist and primarily use Internal Family Systems therapy with clients.

I found my passion for counseling through my own experiences with mental health. Life is a tough journey, and no one is meant to go through it alone, though it can often feel very lonely. My goal and hope is to provide a safe, welcoming, non-judgmental space for you to process your experiences, heal your wounds, and continue to grow on your journey. Counseling allows you to process your experiences and feelings, which often leads to better relationships, solutions to specific problems, and relief from feelings of distress. Seeking help is a brave decision to make and I’m glad you’re here!

My counseling approach integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Therapeutic Yoga and Dialectical Behavioral therapy. There is no greater power than helping individuals to overcome mental and emotional barriers/ traumas that impede overall health & well-being. I believe that we are the “Author of our story” and our voyage is to own the “Ink” that writes “Our” story. It is important that my clients are provided a safe space, free of judgment, and are given an environment to express themselves. I am committed as a Clinical Social Worker to creating an emotional environment where change and healing are possible.

Hi I'm Alison Cross! I am a psychotherapist, and I provide both in person and virtual services in Georgia and North Carolina. It’s important to have an idea of what feels like the right fit when you’re looking for a qualified person to talk to. The problem is, how do you know? So here's what it looks like with me. When my client leaves our session, my goal is for them to feel heard and respected.  I want my clients to feel like they’re talking to a real person.  How else can trust be built? My style has been described as 'down to earth, gentle, and encouraging.' I also have a great sense of humor that comes in only when appropriate.

I am so glad you are looking to start therapy. The searching can be so confusing and frustrating, so I recognize that you are taking a big and emotional step. My name is Lauren and I am passionate about my work with individuals who have a history of trauma, substance use, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, ADHD, mood-disorders, and BPD. I enjoy being able to encourage my clients as they become more aware of their strengths and unique qualities. It's not often we have unconditional support from others which is why counselors often help us navigate our way towards self-acceptance and self-love.

Feminist Therapists

How does feminist therapy work?

Feminist therapy sessions are not only personal but often cultural or political in nature, as the approach is based on the belief that people are affected by, and often struggle with, cultural and societal norms and biases, and need to move beyond those external pressures or stressors to tap their own confidence and engage more fully in their own identity. Sessions may therefore include discussions of sexism, diversity, and gender issues and talk of steps toward greater empowerment for patients who believe they have been silenced and seek to raise their voices.

What are examples of feminist therapy techniques?

Along with traditional talk therapy and analysis, a feminist therapist may employ techniques such as role-playing and assertiveness training to help clients build their self-esteem so that they feel they can act freely, and not based on cultural expectations or gender roles dictated by others. A feminist therapist may also engage in bibliotherapy, offering suggested readings on gender identity or social power inequities as they work toward viewing mental-health concerns through a broad cultural lens before focusing on how they affect the individual. Somatic therapy techniques, with an emphasis on body awareness, self-compassion, and mindfulness practices are also often part of feminist therapist practice.

How long does feminist therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for feminist therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. It may take some time to become comfortable discussing personal issues, but once a client feels they can do so, they could expect therapy to last for a number of months, typically including at least 12 sessions.

Does feminist therapy work?

As a relatively recent therapeutic technique, there is not yet a body of evidence proving the efficacy of feminist therapy. However, the approach is based on proven core principles of talk therapy, with a particular emphasis on developing a therapeutic relationship based on equality and authentic connection between therapist and client and discovering and building on clients’ personal strengths to help them gain a greater sense of personal power and agency.
