I work from the person-centered, multicultural, cognitive-behavioral, and feminist perspectives.
At times, it can be difficult to admit to ourselves when we are in need of help. It can be even more difficult to admit this to someone else. Counseling, however, creates a safe space to share struggles, fears, feelings, experiences, and more. Counseling can provide peace of mind in good times or bad. As a counselor it is my goal to provide you with a space that is warm and welcoming, and one which you can come as you are! I provide counseling services from a non-judgmental and empathetic point of view.

Special interest areas include: psychotherapy with men, feminist issues, couples therapy, and moral dilemmas.
You need a place to be yourself, where the underbelly and blemishes are welcome without shame or judgment. You work hard, try your best, and still struggle to understand why your life or relationships are not what you thought they would be. You want to feel comfortable and safe with another person who will be supportive and challenge you to take a deeper look inside and make changes that you and others will notice. You will be amazed at how your life makes sense when your emotional and behavioral patterns become conscious.

Though I work with a wide range of clients and a variety of presenting issues, I am particularly drawn to creatives struggling with anxiety and depression. I practice with a feminist focus, striving for equality, advocacy, and equity between all clients and their relationships. My previous experience as an art teacher and artist grants me a deep love for the arts as a tool for healing, which I often use in my practice. I also enjoy working as an ally and advocate for equitable treatment for those who identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ community. My clients include adult (18+ yrs.) individuals and couples.

I offer feminist psychotherapy with a person-centered, evidence-based approach.
Working through trauma requires tremendous courage. It is an honor to walk alongside survivors as they confront the past in order to live a more vibrant future. Whether you are dealing with triggers, flashbacks, nightmares, relationship issues, anxiety, chronic health problems, or simply struggling to stop thinking about unpleasant events from the past, trauma can affect us all differently. Trauma therapy looks different for everyone as well. Sessions are structured around the pacing and support you need. I'm here to help dispel shame around the patterns we have developed in response to adversity and support self-empowerment.

My approach incorporates relational-cultural, feminist, and interpersonal lenses.
I am a trauma-informed provider who supports couples and individuals navigating grief/loss, conflict, trauma and transition. I am passionate about supporting folks identifying with neurodiversity (eg. autistic, AuDH, diagnosed with ADHD, etc ). Clients I support often struggle with the impact of stories about who they "should be", questioning, "Do I matter?" or shedding pieces of themselves to create a sense of belonging. Understanding our stories is one of the bravest things we can do. Together we can explore yours, identify your values and strengths, and pursue healing and growth.

Tori is an integrative psychotherapist, wellness coach, health and medicine journalist, and fitness expert. She offers a unique mind-body approach combining complementary and integrative modalities (such as Ayurveda and mindfulness-based strategies) with modern health science and psychodynamic, humanistic, and cognitive psychology. As an intersectional feminist with a non-judgmental, collaborative approach, Tori considers the whole person and honors their individuality instead of treating their concerns as isolated problems with generic solutions. Many clients have described her as warm, engaging, and down to earth.

I work collaboratively with clients, from the perspective that you are the expert on yourself and my role is to support your growth. I believe the therapeutic relationship is the vehicle for change, and I foster a trusting and brave space for self-exploration and understanding. I trust that clients possess internal resources to help them navigate challenging experiences, and part of our work together is to further nurture and develop those resources. I practice from interpersonal and feminist orientations to examine relational dynamics and societal systems effects on clients’ identities, current experiences, and world views.

I'm a Multicultural Feminist who believes we are more than the sum of our parts.
Experience tells me that most people who seek counseling feel unable to make changes in their life that could bring them greater happiness. I consider it my responsibility and a privilege to facilitate your journey of self-empowerment to make these desired changes. Together we will explore how current patterns of feeling, thinking and acting could be altered by increasing mindfulness and self-compassion. While most of our focus is on the present and future, I also seek to honor your past by exploring how unresolved feelings may be hindering your growth and ability to meet personal goals.

I take a holistic approach, which means I draw from multiple theories and models, some of which are client-centered, and feminist.
Would you like to treat yourself with the kindness and compassion you currently reserve for others? When we go through painful experiences or relationships, it sometimes teaches us to believe something limiting, negative and UNTRUE about ourselves. I want to find out what those beliefs are and what happened to convince you of them. Let’s discover what you truly believe! Any expression of gender, spirituality or identity will be affirmed, honored and respected here. I offer the most gentle trauma therapy I can by centering your needs in every moment.

Feminist Therapists

How does feminist therapy work?

Feminist therapy sessions are not only personal but often cultural or political in nature, as the approach is based on the belief that people are affected by, and often struggle with, cultural and societal norms and biases, and need to move beyond those external pressures or stressors to tap their own confidence and engage more fully in their own identity. Sessions may therefore include discussions of sexism, diversity, and gender issues and talk of steps toward greater empowerment for patients who believe they have been silenced and seek to raise their voices.

What are examples of feminist therapy techniques?

Along with traditional talk therapy and analysis, a feminist therapist may employ techniques such as role-playing and assertiveness training to help clients build their self-esteem so that they feel they can act freely, and not based on cultural expectations or gender roles dictated by others. A feminist therapist may also engage in bibliotherapy, offering suggested readings on gender identity or social power inequities as they work toward viewing mental-health concerns through a broad cultural lens before focusing on how they affect the individual. Somatic therapy techniques, with an emphasis on body awareness, self-compassion, and mindfulness practices are also often part of feminist therapist practice.

How long does feminist therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for feminist therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. It may take some time to become comfortable discussing personal issues, but once a client feels they can do so, they could expect therapy to last for a number of months, typically including at least 12 sessions.

Does feminist therapy work?

As a relatively recent therapeutic technique, there is not yet a body of evidence proving the efficacy of feminist therapy. However, the approach is based on proven core principles of talk therapy, with a particular emphasis on developing a therapeutic relationship based on equality and authentic connection between therapist and client and discovering and building on clients’ personal strengths to help them gain a greater sense of personal power and agency.
