Both in the therapy space and beyond, I view the world through social justice and feminist lenses, trying to understand the systems at play and power structures we exist in so that together we can access choice and feel empowered for the long haul.
Hey there! I'm accepting new clients who are experiencing challenging emotions (depression, anxiety, anger), feel like they’re on the edge of burnout (compassion fatigue, eco-grief, difficulty with daily routines), or noticing relationship distress (communication issues, identity and sexuality exploration, boundaries and agreements). Most of the frameworks I use center around body wisdom and emotions because I believe you are the expert on your own experience and I'm just along to offer gentle guidance when needed. I feel passionate about supporting people who care about the world and want to make it a better place.

I am theoretically grounded in feminist psychology, somatic, and mindfulness approaches.
You’re tired of feeling like thoughts about food and your body dictate how you spend your day. It feels like you cannot escape the voice in your head that tells you that you are not thin enough, you ate too much, and the most important thing about you is the way you look. The truth is - your body is not the problem. It never was. Our culture is structured to make us fit inside narrow constructs that oppress who we are. We will work toward body liberation. Body liberation is the freedom from social and political systems of oppression that designate certain bodies as more worthy, healthy, and desirable than others.

I approach counseling from an experiential and existential perspective, and integrate attachment, feminist, and narrative therapies.
I believe that therapy is a collaborative process between therapist and client, and that by working together we can help you move toward understanding and healing. Your job is to be curious about yourself. Mine is to inspire and assist you in exploring the unknown, uncomfortable, and unfamiliar. I strive to kindly challenge the way people think, and to be challenged myself. I am honored when asked to be present in challenging times, and work to balance holding room for discomfort while helping you discover how to move forward. My ultimate goal is to help you heal by building upon our respect, honesty, and mindfulness.

Through a feminist, liberation focused approach, you'll unlearn the harmful messages you've been taught, release toxic guilt and shame, increase your sense of self-trust, identify and set boundaries, and develop a practical plan for self-care & communal care.
Women are often told exactly who we are supposed to be, what our bodies should like, how to behave, how to live and think. We are constantly made to feel too much and never enough. We are taught by family, culture, and society where our place is in the world. We stay silent as we are expected to offer ourselves up for exhaustion and extraction. We make sure we are not making anyone uncomfortable, not taking up too much space. We learn to shrink, hide the parts of ourselves that are “unacceptable”, and move through the world wearing a mask. But all these rules, expectations, and beliefs feel shackles. And you're ready to be free.

At my core, I am inspired by feminist, multicultural, and neurodiversity-affirming approaches to healing that seek to interrupt systems of oppression that impact you.
My approach to mental health counseling and high performance psychology does not focus simply on symptom reduction (i.e., removing difficulty), but rather aspires to honor what is good and right about you, and what makes each day worth living according to your beliefs, identities, values, and enriching relationships. My aim is to provide a space that invites exploration of challenging yet vital places of growth in the service of what is most important to you in your life. In particular, I have passions supporting people's resilience to shame, perfectionism, and anxiety.

I utilize narrative, IFS (parts work), feminist, person-centered, and existential theories and work from an anti-racist, anti-colonial, sex positive, poly, queer and trans affirming perspective.
Whether seeking individual, relational, or family therapy, I believe we are all multi-storied beings and that everyone is the expert of their own story and experience. Along the way, we collect stories-stories that others tell about us, stories we tell about ourselves, the story we tell about the problem, and stories we inherit from dominant knowledge or culture. These narratives shape our perception of ourselves and others and can influence relational connection which often contributes to why one might seek out therapy.

My treatments are feminist-, multicultural-, and liberation-informed and I am active in creating a non-judgmental, anti-racist, and decolonized therapy experience for clients with a variety of lived experiences and identities.
Looking to improve your sport/mental performance? Better understand your gender, sexuality, or relationship identity? Process a history of trauma? Our stories are our greatest power, and yet, can be difficult to share. I am a Clinical Sport Psychologist who encourages clients to tell their stories (yes, even the ugly stuff!) as accurately and meaningfully as possible to pave a path for moving forward. I equally recognize that not all mental health concerns are individually determined, and encourage clients to explore the impact of their social, intergenerational, and environmental histories and resources to promote healing/growth.

I specialize in trauma and PTSD recovery, family of origin issues, and identity exploration. I also help folks with a range of concerns, such as anxiety, depression, identity related stress, and academic/work issues.

I love working with people. I tend to be a really good listener, love to brainstorm, and am somewhat directive. I am very practical and real. I enjoy very much hearing and working to understand situations and patterns in a person's life, where are they repeating themselves, and how many ways are there to break up patterns that are not serving us. I am keen to see habits and places that shut us down, and like to work on and practice how that may shift, with much compassion on how scary that can be. I appreciate the vulnerability it takes to come in and share intimate and hard details about ourselves.

Couples Counseling: Are you longing to reconnect with your partner and get back the closeness you once had? Is it hard to talk about issues without it turning into a conflict? Has your relationship been affected by some form of infidelity and now the two of you are struggling to repair your relationship? You may have tried traditional couples counseling and are looking for a more effective approach? I use Imago Relationship Therapy as the way I work with couples because I have found it to be the most effective form of couples therapy that I have come across in my 20 years as a couples counselor.

There are times where life presents tremendous challenges that can feel and seem insurmountable. Childhood wounding, insecure attachment, abuse, discrimination, divorce/separations, existential crisis, and transition to motherhood can be overwhelming. Often our family, friends, and larger community, if we are connected to them, do not know to help or are compromised themselves and cannot. This is when the proverbial "sh*t hits the fan." In some larger way, we might be able to see what is happening as an opportunity to grow, but what has happened or is happening is so painful we need strong support to get through and grow from it.

Feminist Therapists

How does feminist therapy work?

Feminist therapy sessions are not only personal but often cultural or political in nature, as the approach is based on the belief that people are affected by, and often struggle with, cultural and societal norms and biases, and need to move beyond those external pressures or stressors to tap their own confidence and engage more fully in their own identity. Sessions may therefore include discussions of sexism, diversity, and gender issues and talk of steps toward greater empowerment for patients who believe they have been silenced and seek to raise their voices.

What are examples of feminist therapy techniques?

Along with traditional talk therapy and analysis, a feminist therapist may employ techniques such as role-playing and assertiveness training to help clients build their self-esteem so that they feel they can act freely, and not based on cultural expectations or gender roles dictated by others. A feminist therapist may also engage in bibliotherapy, offering suggested readings on gender identity or social power inequities as they work toward viewing mental-health concerns through a broad cultural lens before focusing on how they affect the individual. Somatic therapy techniques, with an emphasis on body awareness, self-compassion, and mindfulness practices are also often part of feminist therapist practice.

How long does feminist therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for feminist therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. It may take some time to become comfortable discussing personal issues, but once a client feels they can do so, they could expect therapy to last for a number of months, typically including at least 12 sessions.

Does feminist therapy work?

As a relatively recent therapeutic technique, there is not yet a body of evidence proving the efficacy of feminist therapy. However, the approach is based on proven core principles of talk therapy, with a particular emphasis on developing a therapeutic relationship based on equality and authentic connection between therapist and client and discovering and building on clients’ personal strengths to help them gain a greater sense of personal power and agency.
