Hi! I'm Bree and I'm a peer counselor rooted in fat liberation, community psychology, and feminist therapy. I mostly work with rad fat folx who strive for fat positivity and/or body neutrality. I work with others who aren't fat, but they're anti-diet and striving for body liberation, too. I also work with fellow neurodivergent folx who want to work with (instead of against) their unique circumstances. I love working with people who are collaborative, solution-oriented, open to feedback, and open to using tarot for additional feedback. If you're looking for empowerment and unconditional support, I've got lots of it to give! :)

I most frequently use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Feminist Oriented Theory, as both modalities help me and the person I work with to receive a therapeutic experience that is unique and personalized to them.
My name is Michelle Pereira and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Los Angeles, California, and working with clients statewide via telehealth. I work with college students, adolescents and adults and specialize in anxiety, stress, and trauma, using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Feminist Oriented Theory, and holistic modalities such as crystal healing and Somatic Therapy to help my clients make progress and start feeling better.

There's a lot of talk about "survival mode" and being "stuck". Many of us are moving, often, between these two extremes. Many of us are surviving or trying to get unstuck from our bodies, our jobs, our families, coming out, college transitions, gender transitions, a relationship in a tough spot, loss, an existential or identity crisis, or coming from a place of certainty to find ourselves in these life challenges. Listen, I won't ever call you out on a place I've never been myself. I believe, fully, that there is so much life after survival. You don't have to believe that too, but I'm so glad you've arrived here.

We live in a world of countless binaries, expectations, and assumptions about our lives, and escaping them in order to come into our own can be an incredibly difficult process. Perhaps you are here because you are struggling with obstacles in your life, or feel lost and unsure of what's next for you. Perhaps you are struggling with your identity or your personal relationships. Whatever the reason, you have already begun the process of seeking help and that means a great deal. I am licensed in the states of California, Idaho, and Nevada and can offer telehealth to clients in any of those states.

Seeking out therapy is a very heroic action in and of itself, perhaps your first proactive step into redefining your sense of self, creating a new life story, and taking a leap into the direction of self-care. If you are reading this, you may be in a state of uncertainty, or perhaps connected more deeply than you would like to be to the effects of depression, anxiety, or your daily life situations. Maybe, you are wrestling in a relationship with someone you love; perhaps, finding the words to communicate who you are and how you feel may seem unattainable and challenging at best.

Life's journey is filled with various challenges that can lead to stress, depression, anxiety, or trauma. These experiences can then lead to feeling overwhelmed, stuck, and less of oneself as well as other issues such as relationship difficulties. While it can be difficult to confront these issues, I believe in the remarkable resilience within each of us, that allows us to grow and overcome in the midst of challenges. I'm here to offer you a safe space where you can freely explore your stories and learn new ways to cope and heal. I value and deeply respect who you are and the wisdom and strengths that already exist within you.

Hello! My name is Annu, and I am a therapist in San Francisco (and online). I work with immigrants and adult-children of immigrants....also known as Third Culture Kids (TCK) or First Generation Americans. I work with multi-cultural and multi-racial couples, many of whom are people of color. I work with successful, career-driven achievers. I belong to each of these demographics - my parents immigrated to the US in 1971, and I worked in the corporate world for nearly 2 decades, climbing the corporate ladder rapidly before pivoting my career by going back to school to study counseling psychology. I work virtually via Zoom or phone.

Welcome! I am a queer psychotherapist working from a social justice and anti-oppression framework. This means that we will work together to understand how the systems of the world and your environment contribute to your life. I strongly believe in the ability we each have to better understand ourselves and heal with the support we need - I am here to guide you in that process.

You’ve been holding it together for a long time. No one notices you’re barely treading water. You dread checking your work email (which you do every 5 minutes) to find another insensitive demand from your boss. Finding a meaningful, supportive relationship feels like a pipe dream at this point. You’ve done everything ‘right’ in your life but have found yourself deeply unhappy with your job, your career path, your relationship options...You feel trapped. You just want some space for yourself to breathe, to think, to not be weighed down by the pressure of everyone else’s expectations of you.

Not accepting new clients
Therapy can be a transformative experience of acknowledging Self and finding a higher level of functioning. The relationship between therapist and client facilitates gentle and foundational changes aiming to discard dysfunctional coping skills and to acquire healthier tools for living. I intend to create an accepting and nonjudgmental space and connect with my clients through compassion, empathy and unconditional positive regard. I understand and cherish the intimacy and honor that is my role in my clients' lives.

I draw from modalities such as Attachment Theory, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based CBT, Existential Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Feminist Therapy.
A meaningful therapeutic relationship can be a nurturing and generative environment for growth and empowerment. In an accepting and loving space, hopes, fears, anxiety, depression, and trauma can be safely explored and harnessed as agents of change. I am passionate about the possibilities for healing and radical self-acceptance within each unique client and therapist relationship. Our work together will be collaborative, containing, and non-judgmental, exploring the past and present, as well as hopes for the future. I work from a place of warmth, curiosity, humor, and deep reverence for your unique life experience.

I have been trained in postmodern practices, cognitive therapy, mindfulness and feminist therapy.
I believe psychotherapy is a mutual journey between the therapist and the client. Though the waters can be rough, the adventure can be exciting and rewarding. It is an opportunity for the client to create a different way of being in the world and discover new narratives of their personal story. Whether depression, addiction, relational, or crisis, we will unpack the problem and find a solution. Specialized in trauma work with mindfulness and EMDR.

As a Death Doula and Latine therapist, I strive to provide an empathetic approach that encompasses intersectionality with nontraditional, feminist/multicultural, radical interventions.
Welcome! I provide support to individuals, couples, kink, and various polyamorous/ethically non-monogamous relational structures to guide them toward sexual wellness and health with an emphasis on communication, pleasure, and intimacy. I am also an avid advocate for combatting stigma in regard to STI/STDs, providing education on safe disclosures, and anxiety surrounding initial diagnoses. I've worked with folks with disabilities and chronic illness/pain, sex workers, survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, LGBTQIA+, reproductive and perinatal issues, and those struggling with cultural identity and religious trauma.

Feminist Therapists

How does feminist therapy work?

Feminist therapy sessions are not only personal but often cultural or political in nature, as the approach is based on the belief that people are affected by, and often struggle with, cultural and societal norms and biases, and need to move beyond those external pressures or stressors to tap their own confidence and engage more fully in their own identity. Sessions may therefore include discussions of sexism, diversity, and gender issues and talk of steps toward greater empowerment for patients who believe they have been silenced and seek to raise their voices.

What are examples of feminist therapy techniques?

Along with traditional talk therapy and analysis, a feminist therapist may employ techniques such as role-playing and assertiveness training to help clients build their self-esteem so that they feel they can act freely, and not based on cultural expectations or gender roles dictated by others. A feminist therapist may also engage in bibliotherapy, offering suggested readings on gender identity or social power inequities as they work toward viewing mental-health concerns through a broad cultural lens before focusing on how they affect the individual. Somatic therapy techniques, with an emphasis on body awareness, self-compassion, and mindfulness practices are also often part of feminist therapist practice.

How long does feminist therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for feminist therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. It may take some time to become comfortable discussing personal issues, but once a client feels they can do so, they could expect therapy to last for a number of months, typically including at least 12 sessions.

Does feminist therapy work?

As a relatively recent therapeutic technique, there is not yet a body of evidence proving the efficacy of feminist therapy. However, the approach is based on proven core principles of talk therapy, with a particular emphasis on developing a therapeutic relationship based on equality and authentic connection between therapist and client and discovering and building on clients’ personal strengths to help them gain a greater sense of personal power and agency.
