My work is informed by queer, feminist, and transformative justice principles and draws on ideas and interventions from Narrative Therapy, EFT, Nonviolent Communication, IFS, and Hakomi.
What values would you like to be moving towards in your life? What are you hoping to move away from? I love supporting humans who are attempting to answer these questions. I specialize in supporting folks who are exploring sexual concerns (I am kink and ENM competent and affirming), individuals and couples exploring non-traditional relationships, queer & gender-diverse folks, and people who are navigating major life transitions like faith crises and divorce.

Living during times of crisis can be more stressful and overwhelming, which can make dealing with stress, anxiety, depression and relationship issues even harder. Asking for help, and taking time to take care of you is a healthy and important part of handling it all. With all of us going through so much, it's even more important than ever to take good care of ourselves. My specialties are healing CPTSD, LGBTQ+, relationship issues, recovering from narcissistic relationships, emotional abuse, and gaslighting. LDS faith and religious crisis/transition, and living a life of authenticity are also a big part of my work.

Stephanie is always client centered and rooted in evidence-based practices. She has received extensive training in various modalities address diagnoses of complex trauma/PTSD, borderline personality disorder, bipolar, addiction issues, and dissociative disorders. She believes the decision to enter therapy is courageous, and the path of self-discovery and fulfillment is one of the most profound journeys on which we embark. This path requires that each person be witnessed, seen, and held in a compassionate and supportive space.

We all want fulfillment or to be content and we often struggle to be that way. Our life experiences, culture(s), and development contribute to ways of thinking, feeling, and living. Add adverse or traumatic experiences to those influences and we seldom escape without reinforced negative beliefs about ourselves or the world. These beliefs can be right in our faces or very subtlety prodding at our subconscious. Either way, this is where we all need help and guidance.

"There was a dawn remembered when my soul heard something from your soul" - Rumi - The therapuetic encounter allows for the kind of "dawning" which Rumi alludes to. Who am I at my truest being? What lessons am I meant to learn in this lifetime? What gifts do I bring to this world? What is the greater good I want to serve? Each human journey is a mysterious and beautiful evolution of understanding who we are and why we are here. We often lose sight of our inner beauty and goodness due to what seems like life's betrayals, rejections and overwhelming challenges.

Jeff came to Lifestance Health after working here as an Intern during his first year of graduate training. His journey to becoming a therapist came from having run addiction recovery groups as a volunteer for nearly 3 ½ years. There he found how much pain people live with, often while working hard to appear as though nothing is wrong. There is something so incredibly powerful about seeing someone being validated and heard. Before returning to Lifestance, he worked at Renaissance Ranch Treatment Center–helping those in the acute phase of addiction recovery.

Pain in life is inevitable and can stem from feelings of anxiety, depression, change, loss of a loved one, or being let go from a job. Events like these can invite terrible pain and little time to adapt as needed. Life demands that we keep moving forward. So, on the outside we often look like we “have it together” but on the inside, you feel like you are falling apart. You feel like no one truly understands the hurt you are experiencing. It’s as if everyone wants you to be the person you used to be, move on, suck it up, and pretend like you're fine. Except, you are tired of pretending, tired of waiting.

By now you have probably read so many profiles your head is spinning and your eyes are bleary.. Finding the perfect therapist is an impossible ideal. The goal should be to find someone who has enough clinical and life experience, enough training, and someone who is interested in really listening to you to help you get unstuck from where you are now. Just as there is no ideal therapist, there is no ideal patient. We are all wounded in some way, some more, some less. Whatever problems or symptoms are getting in your way, in addition to finding relief for them, developing self understanding goes a long way and lasts a lifetime.

Feminist Therapists
How does feminist therapy work?
Feminist therapy sessions are not only personal but often cultural or political in nature, as the approach is based on the belief that people are affected by, and often struggle with, cultural and societal norms and biases, and need to move beyond those external pressures or stressors to tap their own confidence and engage more fully in their own identity. Sessions may therefore include discussions of sexism, diversity, and gender issues and talk of steps toward greater empowerment for patients who believe they have been silenced and seek to raise their voices.
What are examples of feminist therapy techniques?
Along with traditional talk therapy and analysis, a feminist therapist may employ techniques such as role-playing and assertiveness training to help clients build their self-esteem so that they feel they can act freely, and not based on cultural expectations or gender roles dictated by others. A feminist therapist may also engage in bibliotherapy, offering suggested readings on gender identity or social power inequities as they work toward viewing mental-health concerns through a broad cultural lens before focusing on how they affect the individual. Somatic therapy techniques, with an emphasis on body awareness, self-compassion, and mindfulness practices are also often part of feminist therapist practice.
How long does feminist therapy last?
As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for feminist therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. It may take some time to become comfortable discussing personal issues, but once a client feels they can do so, they could expect therapy to last for a number of months, typically including at least 12 sessions.
Does feminist therapy work?
As a relatively recent therapeutic technique, there is not yet a body of evidence proving the efficacy of feminist therapy. However, the approach is based on proven core principles of talk therapy, with a particular emphasis on developing a therapeutic relationship based on equality and authentic connection between therapist and client and discovering and building on clients’ personal strengths to help them gain a greater sense of personal power and agency.
