Deciding to begin therapy can be overwhelming because the idea of change can be overwhelming. While inevitable, change doesn’t have to happen all at once; it requires practice, persistence, and a supportive environment. I approach each person with humility and respect and honor each individual’s unique experiences. I aim to understand the larger systems, including the relationships, community, and society, that lead to where we are today. My approach to therapy is grounded in providing evidence-based treatment, treatment proven to be effective, and creating a collaborative space where we can work toward your desired change together.

My overall goal of therapy is holding you accountable in a nonjudgmental way that supports your goals, validates your efforts, and challenges you in a way that aligns with your worldview. I like to offer feedback in an objective way and suggest skills and perspectives that you choose whether or not to implement. The methodology of my approach is conversation; two people in a room trying to figure things out while utilizing various perspectives, theories, and attempts. An emphasis of my time with you is always you; your goals, thoughts, emotions, and beliefs are valuable and I find exploring them in a therapeutic setting helpful.

Our minds can be real asshats sometimes, and this often makes us sad, annoyed, frustrated, even down right depressive. Using a mindful, relational, somatic and holistic perspective with psychoeducation, humor and sometimes silliness, I will work collaboratively with you to help you discover the strengths that will allow you to overcome self-sabotaging behavior or any other inner obstacle, and to regain a sense of wholeness and meaning. I only offer telehealth services for the state of Texas and I don't accept insurance.

Are you looking for an “anything-but-typical” therapist? Have you struggled to find a therapist who connects with your neurodivergence, idiosyncrasies, or unconventional perspectives? You feel too much — or maybe not enough. Everyone says you're too much — or not enough. You might struggle with the parts of life that others seem to just take for granted, like meeting deadlines, eating without fear, enjoying time with friends, parenting without guilt or shame, looking in the mirror, making and keeping plans, paying bills on time, or controlling your anger over seemingly small things.

My treatment philosophy is to provide a safe and supportive environment for my clients to share their unique experiences, gain additional insights, and learn positive coping skills to maximize psychosocial functioning. Psychotherapy is a collaborative effort between therapist and client, where the client is an active participant. Together, we work on developing individualized treatment goals and interventions using a variety of psychotherapeutic modalities. As a clinical social worker, I believe my client's relationship with the environment is essential in fostering healthy mental, emotional, and behavioral functioning.

Hey there! I’m Jessica, your go-to therapist for navigating the wild ride of perinatal mental health with a side of humor and heart. Think of me as your personal guide through the ups and downs of pregnancy, childbirth, and early parenthood—minus the judgment and with a lot more laughter. Whether you’re battling pregnancy brain, coping with postpartum blues, or just trying to figure out how to get through the day without spilling baby food on yourself (spoiler alert: it’s harder than it looks), I’ve got your back.

Now accepting new clients online! My story: I thought I could do it all & on my own. I was "ok" ignoring all the signs like panic attacks, staying in bed all day, and obsessing over every little decision, mistake or adversity. I've learned to accept some things & change others by understanding that life is what I CHOOSE IT TO BE! My current goal is to help you diminish suicidal thoughts, express yourself more effectively, and manage your moods. I want you to be "ok" and even better than ok!

Feminist Therapists

How does feminist therapy work?

Feminist therapy sessions are not only personal but often cultural or political in nature, as the approach is based on the belief that people are affected by, and often struggle with, cultural and societal norms and biases, and need to move beyond those external pressures or stressors to tap their own confidence and engage more fully in their own identity. Sessions may therefore include discussions of sexism, diversity, and gender issues and talk of steps toward greater empowerment for patients who believe they have been silenced and seek to raise their voices.

What are examples of feminist therapy techniques?

Along with traditional talk therapy and analysis, a feminist therapist may employ techniques such as role-playing and assertiveness training to help clients build their self-esteem so that they feel they can act freely, and not based on cultural expectations or gender roles dictated by others. A feminist therapist may also engage in bibliotherapy, offering suggested readings on gender identity or social power inequities as they work toward viewing mental-health concerns through a broad cultural lens before focusing on how they affect the individual. Somatic therapy techniques, with an emphasis on body awareness, self-compassion, and mindfulness practices are also often part of feminist therapist practice.

How long does feminist therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for feminist therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. It may take some time to become comfortable discussing personal issues, but once a client feels they can do so, they could expect therapy to last for a number of months, typically including at least 12 sessions.

Does feminist therapy work?

As a relatively recent therapeutic technique, there is not yet a body of evidence proving the efficacy of feminist therapy. However, the approach is based on proven core principles of talk therapy, with a particular emphasis on developing a therapeutic relationship based on equality and authentic connection between therapist and client and discovering and building on clients’ personal strengths to help them gain a greater sense of personal power and agency.
