Using evidence-based models like The Gottman Method & EMDR, I have been able to help clients save relationships and heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that result from adverse life experiences.
We all want to feel better & have thriving relationships, but our life experiences have a direct impact on that. Whether you're an individual with unresolved trauma, a first responder whose job is affecting their personal life, or a couple struggling to communicate or with infidelity, for example. Conflict & residual trauma can cause a loss of connection over time with those we love. And trauma left untreated can cause heightened reactions, like anger or fear, or the opposite - emotional detachment. You may notice feeling sad or irritable, have nightmares, or struggle with trust. The effects are different for each person.

Using IFS, Somatic Psychotherapy, Gottman Method Couples Therapy, Structural Family Therapy, and treating internalized oppression, I work with couples, families, adults, pre-teens, and teens in person and via telehealth.
As a couple, family, & individual therapist, I honor the importance of our inherent human need to be in fulfilling connection with others and ourselves. And I recognize how difficult this can sometimes be. Whether you're feeling disconnected from your partner, overwhelmed by the level of conflict in your day-to-day family interactions, going through a major life transition, or seeking individual therapy to explore how past hurt and current challenges are constraining you from more fully inhabiting your life, therapy can be a powerful tool for growth. I offer a free consultation to explore our possible work together.

I am trained in Relational, EMDR, Gottman Method, and Cognitive Behavioral therapies.
Over the past six years, it has been such a pleasure walking with my clients through their journeys of healing and change. I have had the privilege of sitting with parents struggling through the heartache of divorce, immigrants and children of immigrants who are making a home against all odds, college students fighting dominant culture norms, survivors of marital abuse, and those fighting to escape their childhood trauma. Before becoming a therapist, I worked in education and non-profits in India, and I am astounded, then and now, by the human capacity for resilience and strength in the face of hardship.

I use Gottman Method Couples Therapy.
My clients often feel overwhelmed, stressed, anxious, have high expectations, and don’t want to burden others. As a result, they sometimes have a hard time not only accepting help but asking for help too. I specialize in stress management, anxiety, moderate/mild depression and relationships. I do a lot of work around negative self talk, self-esteem/worth, assertiveness, self care and boundary setting. For individuals, I start by completing a biopsychosocial assessment, so I can learn about you on multiple levels and better understand your subjective experience. We then move on to setting treatment goals and begin therapy.

My goal is to help you find hope, health and healing in your life and relationships! I became a certified Gottman educator in 2006 and have completed Level 3 in Gottman Method.
Assisting individuals, couples, parents and families with the challenges of life is a privilege and a passion! Some of these challenges come from difficult and painful relationships we have with others but can even come in the relationship we have with ourselves! This can cause a loss of connection and an increase in anxiety, anger and depression. However, learning to manage and improve relationships can bring about significant satisfaction, confidence and joy. We are also often faced with the anxiety and fear of transitions and unexpected life changes. I am here to help you navigate these challenges!

I have trained in the Gottman Method of couple's counseling as well as Lifespan Integration Level 1.
Healing and caring for ourselves is hard work. Sometimes painful, often fulfilling, occasionally tedious, it is a necessary part of being open to the experiences that life has to offer us. Therapy is one way to find support in healing from trauma, managing our health, and discovering and practicing new ways of caring for ourselves. As Audre Lorde wrote, "Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare." This work is important, both individually and collectively, and I am here to help you with it.

I work with couples, family members, and individuals experiencing conflict, disconnection or distress in their intimate relationships. Couples who come to see me say things like: "We've had a breakdown in communication;" "We just can't seem to get along;" "I'm feeling unappreciated by my spouse/partner," "We've tried but we can't seem to work through this issue on our own;" "We want to rebuild trust after a betrayal;" "We're struggling to feel close after the transition to parenthood;" and "We love each other very much but we can't stop fighting."

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
