I specialize in walking with people struggling to make sense of difficult things in life. Sometimes the first thing needed is just someone who will listen. Clients that do well with me come because they are hoping to change and are willing to try something new. The same is true for children who do well.Trust your gut. Research shows that when the client feels "good" about the counselor, that feeling is a strong indicators that a counselor will be helpful for the client. I do my best to honor the courage and vulnerability it takes to seek help.

Emotional pain, fear, and problems in life can propel someone into therapy. Distress can feel deep-rooted, and in actuality, often does reflect early, 'ancient' issues. I believe that also in our deepest roots, we may tap into powers of resilience and of amazing, unique selfhood that nourish us in development toward our human potentialities. In courageous exploration of, and work through life's challenges, we can find, and bring to light, marvelous, hard-won gifts of self-actualization, and well-being.

Life is full of unexpected twists and turns, and there are times when we can feel overwhelmed and stressed. Our emotions are not good or bad, they offer signals of what may be wrong or need attention. I provide individual and couple therapy by offering a safe, compassionate, and non-judgmental space to process life’s complexities. I view the counseling process as forming an alliance with clients to explore the nature of their pain, trauma, and disconnection. Often it is in a relationship with others where we are harmed, but it is also in a relationship with God and others where we can find healing.

“How can I reconnect intimately with my partner?” “How do we navigate having different levels of sexual desire?” “How do we rebuild trust after it’s been broken?” “Who am I and what does that mean?” These are all questions I have heard many iterations of in my therapy office, so if you’ve found yourself asking some of these same questions, you’re not alone. Whether you're tackling rebuilding trust, cultivating intimacy, exploring sexuality, deconstructing harmful self-narratives, or developing communication skills, it is an honor to walk alongside you during this journey, as you invest in yourself and your relationships.

Going through rough transitions in life such as dealing with a disability, loss of someone, family conflict, relationship issues, self-esteem issues, or identity issues can take a toll on your mind, body, and spirit. It is extremely challenging to have to deal with all these emotions with nobody to vent to and explore positive ways to deal with these issues. My ideal client is someone who understands and desires a better outlook on life and a better perspective of themselves. Even though you may be going through adjustment to new challenges that create stress, anxiety, or depression, there is always hope.

My work is rooted in a collaborative, relational, and compassionate framework that considers the full experience of each client's identity. I feel strongly about creating inclusive and supportive spaces for people in transitional stages. I’m fascinated with how our relationship to ourselves and to others affects our wellbeing, and aim to provide a supportive and co-creative space that’s filled with presence, care, understanding, humor, and joy as we navigate these experiences together. Over the last decade I’ve worked with refugees, first-generation college students, and people experiencing trauma and PTSD, anxiety, and depression.

I approach counseling as a collaborative alliance between client and therapist. I aim to assist clients in better understanding themselves in the context of their family histories and current relationships. Moreover, it is important to address the contribution of ones' cultural background, race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, experiences of oppression, family history, socioeconomic status, and professional culture (e.g.: tech sector and social media). Once this has been achieved, I help clients make substantive changes and work to remove negative patterns.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
