Sometimes we all need extra support as we navigate life's challenges. My counseling approach is grounded in the belief that everyone is capable of change and that we all have within us a deep well of strength and resilience that enables us to overcome and move toward our fullest and most empowered selves. Together, we will work to draw on your strengths and resources, clarify your goals, and explore your internal and external worlds in order to deepen your awareness and create the space for change, growth, and healing.

Finding balance in life can be overwhelming with contrast all around us. I am passionate about providing a safe and empowering space for individuals to be themselves. The work we do together will be intentional and geared toward self-discovery. I am dedicated to helping you connect with your inner source. Together we will explore verbal, visual and creative expression to help bring awareness to the ways in which the mind and body store and manifest negative patterns.

Openings 11AM Monday and 2PM Thursday: I work with children, teens, families, and adults who are ready to heal from trauma and build healthy relationships. As a Queer therapist, I'm skilled in supporting marginalized people to build self-worth and live with a greater sense of wellbeing amidst systems that undermine our inherent value. Working with me is what it sounds like: having a guide for you, your child, and partner(s) in building more loving, functional, and liberating relationships with yourself and others. With adults and teens, I utilize an evidence-based modality based in neuroscience called Brainspotting to heal trauma.

Seek me out when you are having problems with depression, anxiety, pain, stress, self- esteem, anger, health, or in your relationship. Marital problems such as loss, betrayal, trust, anger or alienation are common problems that couples or individuals bring to me. I have a warm, clear, reflective, interpersonal style. I tailor my approach to the needs of the client. This means we may look at your need for dealing with negative thoughts, how to manage your pain, relaxation training, or look at your developmental experiences to design corrective experiences. Clearly decision- making, communication skills, managing emotion could be addressed.

I believe therapy is about collaboration, working together to discover and explore your strengths and find your unique story. I offer a caring and non-judgmental space where you’ll feel heard as you move toward achieving your personal goals. I’ve been working as a school counselor in Vermont with families in crisis and these past few years have been especially tough due to the pandemic, impacting our youth profoundly. Having witnessed this firsthand within the school system, I was inspired to start my own practice.

I am a grief and loss specialist. Grieving the death of a loved one is among the most challenging and transformative experiences one will ever face. While sadness is a nearly universal response to loss it may be hard to understand the confusion, doubt, anger and fear that arises after the loss of a loved one. It can be challenging to reach out and find compassionate connections that will help you rebuild your life. Yet, in order to move forward it is essential to find a safe environment in which to explore and express grief at your unique pace. Only then can you (re)discover strength, vitality and enthusiasm.

Psychotherapy is both an art and a science. I believe that my strength as a psychotherapist is that I am informed equally by my theoretical foundation as well as my creativity and intuition. The first part of my theoretical foundation is drawn from insight-oriented theories. I'm interested in how the interplay of your history and personality has contributed to your current concerns. The process of learning about and accepting who you are contributes to your healing. Through gentle and direct exploration and encouragement I will guide you toward self- awareness and compassionate self -acceptance.

I specialize in treating difficulties with anxiety, OCD, depression, mood regulation, & trauma in adults. I also treat couples/relationship issues, & sexual concerns. My theoretical orientation emphasizes mindfulness-based & cognitive therapies & integrates principles from contemporary psychodynamic/existential therapies. In my work I am inspired by the human potential for psychological flexibility, behavioral change, & greater self-understanding. My research in women's sexuality has informed my comfort with sexual concerns, while my studies in Buddhist philosophy strengthen my implementation of mindfulness-based therapies.

Psychotherapy is a collaboration that exists within a trusted, safe relationship. I will work with you to become more self-compassionate and find the place within you that is well. We can develop a relationship in which you begin to notice internal cues and explore your authentic self. We will notice your strengths and find ways to build on positive emotions in therapy together, and safely increase your felt sense which leads to healing from past traumas. We will work together to see beyond diagnosis and explore the human experience. In addition to being a VT licensed psychotherapist, I am also a Board Certified Art Therapist.

I enjoy helping my clients work through the most difficult of life's challenges. I work with individuals from all walks of life, struggling with a variety of conditions and life situations. I take a collaborative approach to treatment, emphasizing personal control in therapy. My interest in psychotherapy stems from my fascination with language and communication. I have spent years researching language from the perspectives of philosophy, linguistics, and psychology. I find this research informs my style of treatment such that I have an ear that is attuned to the subtleties of communication, which many of my patients find extremely supportive.

It's often difficult to reach out for help when you most need it, and it can be hard to speak with someone you've never met about personal issues. On the other hand, it can be easier to do with a person who is a trained, neutral professional. I can be objective and understanding in a way that well-meaning friends and family often cannot. My work with couples, individual adults including seniors, or the younger population, begins in a friendly, professional manner whereby we move towards knowing each other better. A rapport between us is essential in accomplishing our work.

I specialize in working with adults and emerging adults from diverse racial, cultural and ethnic backgrounds. I accept clients who struggle to find competent care due to the overall inadequate support in mental health for individuals who occupy marginalized identity positions. I bring to my practice both deep knowledge about many socio-cultural factors and power dynamics that can profoundly affect a person's lived experiences, as well as deep humility about the limits of my knowledge. I use traditional talk therapy and EMDR -- an integrative therapy that uses a body-based technique called bilateral stimulation.

We are expected to tend to our physical wellness with annual physicals as a means to prevent acute illness and chronic disease. However, when it comes to our mental health, we often do not give the same attention and care. I provide a non-judgmental, safe space where you have the opportunity to nurture yourself fully; mind, body, and spirit.

“The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”, Lao Tzu. You have taken your first courageous step toward creating a more enriching life. No one embarks on this journey of healing alone, as we all need and benefit from guidance. I embrace a holistic, integrative, person-centered and strengths-based approach to wellness, steeped in empathy and compassion. Like all healthy relationships, the client and therapist alliance must be built on a foundation of trust, from which we can explore whatever concerns you; be it anxiety, depression or life transitions that may be interfering with you living to your fullest potential.

I approach therapy holistically, influenced by a career in which I found myself continuously expanding my knowledge and skills to better support my clients' health and well-being goals. I started in athletics and fitness before branching into dietetics, noting its importance as well. Still, my knowledge felt incomplete as I observed how people's relationship with food and their bodies was deeply affected by their emotional state of mind, their experiences, their relationships, and their perspective on what it means to be human. Incorporating psychology enabled me to fully integrate the interplay between the mind and body in therapy.

I see a state of imbalance in the world that affects all beings and brings out our collective and individual defenses. These intersect with trauma, relationship issues, fear, anxiety, grief, and depression to create patterns of disharmony within our lives and our dynamics with others. Whatever brings you to therapy, I believe that therapy can help ease the burden. I see therapy as a process of co-creatively and compassionately tending to threads of discord that have become intransigent, freeing new pathways of thinking, feeling, and being. With time and attention, therapy can help cultivate and strengthen an inner balance.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
