Have you had a life changing event? I treat grief, trauma and PTSD.
Are you exhausted every day trying to just keep up? So many responsibilities and demands. You are overwhelmed, stuck, embarrassed or feeling alone in this. Always rushing and always late, forgetting and losing things. This could be you or your kids and ADHD. If you are female, chances are you got missed with a diagnosis and maybe you're just beginning to wonder if this is "the thing" for you or your family. Life doesn't have to be this hard, find out by getting an evaluation now. In an effort to keep costs affordable, I keep my testing brief and targeted. My assessment can be shared with your doctor, work or school.

Being human is not easy! Why we behave in the way we do is born out of life's journey. We are all influenced by various factors in our lives, both past and present, and sometimes we need help to understand how these can get in the way of being able to live life fully and with ease. Therapy can provide a safe and containing space in which to explore thoughts, feelings, beliefs and unhelpful patterns of behavior. I am passionate about working with adolescents and adults who may be experiencing difficulties related to anxiety, depression, trauma, grief/loss, low self esteem, relationship difficulties, ADHD, and parenting challenges.

I have training and experience working with adults and college students with a wide range of concerns: anxiety, depression, grief/loss, trauma, identity and relationship concerns, and life transitions, including career and parenthood.
I believe each person has unique strengths and experiences to successfully navigate life's challenges. However, sometimes, we find ourselves feeling stuck: struggling with depression or anxiety, stressed by our many roles in life, overwhelmed by loss, or holding the pieces of broken relationships, unable to find a way out on our own. My goal is to create a collaborative, culturally-sensitive and compassionate space in which I offer personally-tailored interventions for your situation while working with you to identify and utilize your own strengths to bring about positive change in your life.

As a clinician and published researcher, my specialization is helping people adjust to stressors resulting from anxiety, PTSD, depression, and traumatic loss.
Life Pushes, and when it does, it can feel as though your world has tilted on its axis. Stress brings with it storms: emotional, physical, relational, financial, spiritual, including storms unique to caring for aging parents. When these storms come, it helps to have someone to trust with your story; someone to hold the "flashlight" figuratively speaking, in order to help you identify your life values, navigate your personal goals, and develop tools so your energy is spent living your life instead of existing. It is my desire to help you develop ways to exchange your current stress for strength.

Life problems, depression, anxiety, grief, and anger are just some of the issues that adults face every day. In my practice, clients are valued, respected, and included as partners in their treatment and recovery. Together, we explore your issues and build a plan with measurable objectives that guide us as we work to heal identified hurts, clear confusing thoughts and decrease stress. When clients are motivated to make changes in their lives, we can work together to build new habits and ways of thinking that lead to recovery and peace. Some clients request testing to better understand their personality and issues and I offer that.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
