Being a person is hard. Managing demands of work or school, relationships, family, life changes, and finances all while trying to take care of your heart, mind, body, and soul can feel impossible. It's even harder when you constantly feel anxious, overstimulated, or down and depressed with little relief. Burnout is also on the rise and especially for those in helping professions. On top of this, it is often we carry the unhelpful narratives from past experiences with us through our daily life. If you resonate with any of these challenges, you are not alone, and I am hopeful there are options to help you feel better.

I specialize in disordered eating, body-focused concerns, anxiety disorders, complex trauma, and identity exploration (i.e. gender, sexuality, neurodivergence, etc). I work from a trauma-informed lens, with a holistic and person-centered approach. I aim to create an accepting and affirming space that encourages personal reflection, growth, and self-empowerment through curiosity and compassion. I strongly believe that the mind and body work symbiotically, and that when we become more attuned to our bodies, there is vast potential for new insight and a deeper connection to our innate Self.

I provide therapy for men and women around life transitions, grief, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, guilt and shame, recovering from physical or sexual abuse, trauma and PTSD, identity and self image, spiritual development and spiritual abuse. I personally and professionally understand the dynamics that accompany many of these life challenges. The art of counseling is in the sensitivity, presence, attunement and humility that a counselor demonstrates when building a relationship with a client.

Are you feeling stuck in the past and unable to move forward? Are you wanting to delve deeper into healing from a trauma event or upcoming stressful life event? Do you feel stuck and wish you were making faster progress than you have been from going to weekly psychotherapy sessions? In my experience, 3-4 hour therapy intensive sessions accelerate progress in a shorter period of time for faster trauma resolution. Healing can occur in a few days of therapy intensive sessions rather than over years of weekly sessions. The only openings I have at this time are for therapy intensive sessions and in my online CBT-I Insomnia class.

If you are struggling with an eating disorder, I can help! I know the isolation, denial, justifications and struggles that make recovery difficult. I aim to create a space individually and with peers where you can experiment with recovery and see if it is better than your eating disorder. Eating disorders thrive in isolation, so peer support and building a recovery community is a large part of my treatment model. If you are at the place where you want to try something different, then let's work together! I use both harm-reduction and hold full recovery is possible if that is what is important to you. I regularly research treatments

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
