Life is a series of transitions. Even growth and positive changes require new skill sets and can be challenging to navigate. The process of counseling allows us to gain clarity about ourselves and our situation. It can be profoundly therapeutic to speak to someone who knows how to listen. The gains and insights achieved can be thrilling, but the process itself is hard work. I have been a Clinical Social Worker for 40 years in many settings. I have learned the nuts and bolts of chemical dependency, treatment resources and the path to acceptance of a mental health diagnosis.
For 25 years I worked as a Medical Social Worker, first with the general hospital population, then on a Bone Marrow Transplant unit for over 5 years and finally in outpatient dialysis for 17 years. I understand the realities of receiving a devastating diagnosis, coping with difficult medical treatments and living with chronic illness.
I especially welcome individuals who are dealing with sexual identity issues, and are learning self love and self acceptance. My goal for all clients is to build strengths and to find the skills to live life knowing that there is always a path through transitions and challenges therefore achieving the ability to be fully alive.
