I often work with multicultural individuals, couples and groups using a mind-body approach combining Emotion Focused Therapy, Gottman Method, brainspotting, mindfulness, slow sex and nonviolent communication.
You desire a more fulfilling relationship or sex life. Maybe it is a challenge to directly express your needs and you get stuck in repeating arguments that go nowhere. Perhaps you struggle with loss of passion or experience sexual anxiety. You may wonder how you can ask your partner for better emotional support, appreciation, alone time or good sex. If you're an expat or immigrant, or if you're in an intercultural relationship, you may run up against cultural differences. If you're in a non-traditional or open relationship, maybe you find it a challenge to navigate different values and relationship styles.

My treatment approach is an eclectic blend of evidence-based talk-oriented modalities such as psychoanalytic techniques, CBT, and DBT, as well as evidence-based brain/body-oriented modalities such as Brainspotting and somatic experiencing.
I believe deeply in the power of the therapeutic process. Resolving challenges and life events that have become difficult to manage is the space in which I will meet you, and together, you will collaboratively work towards setting attainable goals while processing and gaining insight into better managing circumstances outside of your control. With experience providing both individualized and group treatment, my service delivery is facilitated from a strength perspective- the heart of sessions being the importance of attunement with the client and the client’s ability to visualize their futures with hopefulness.

I provide psychotherapy to adolescents and adults experiencing relationship, sexuality, and LGBTQ+ issues; anxiety; depression; eating disorders; family conflicts; and acute and complex trauma using a combination of psychodynamic and Brainspotting modalities.
If you are ready to explore who you are, reach your goals, and find self-awareness, I am ready to help guide you. I believe that, as in other areas of healthcare, taking an integrative approach to mental health can help us become more attuned to our wants and needs, and allow us to examine who we are and how we got here in a multitude of ways and from more than one angle. I approach therapy from a standpoint of non-judgmental curiosity and an anti-oppression lens. You are the expert in your own life, and I am committed to walking the path toward happiness and understanding with you.

I offer cutting edge holistic therapy called Brainspotting.
Feeling stuck and suffering in silence is painful. It feels like all of your energy is jammed inside and you are spinning in circles. You yearn for a release. A better way to unleash anxiety, bad memories and hurtful experiences. They are deep inside you and you don't know how to get them out. Shame, guilt, low self esteem, anxiety, depression and hopelessness feels terrible. You know you need deep healing but have no idea how to get there. I can show you a clear path that is within reach. Are your ready to experience fast, powerful and long lasting relief?

Brainspotting works neurobiologically by accessing, reprocessing and extinguishing stuck, unprocessed trauma (frozen survival modes) in the limbic and autonomic parts of the central nervous system.
For over 20 years, I have worked with a diverse population of adults including those who are HIV+ and with the LGBTQ community. My style is highly empathic and non-judgmental and my approach combines elements from Humanistic and Positive Psychology, Motivational Interviewing and EFT. I have experience treating individuals with depression, anxiety, OCD, chronic illness, eating disorders and those with a history of trauma and PTSD. I have additional training in Brainspotting, an evidence-based form of psychotherapy developed by David Grand, PhD, in 2003 that evolved from EMDR and Somatic Processing.

As a trained Brainspotting therapist I incorporate this mind-body modality for processing trauma, anxiety, depression, and performance blocks.
Alyssa is a relationship therapist who helps individuals & couples reconnect with themselves and each other through healing complex trauma, grief, chronic anxiety & toxic relationship patterns. I help clients slow down from their busy lives that leave little space to breathe or make choices with clarity, often clouded by an anxious street of thoughts or floating numbly with disconnection while over-scheduling to avoid pain. We explore and shift how expectations and circumstances may come at the expense of clarity and fulfillment from a safe foundation of connection that promotes safe communication, growth and healing.

I’m intensively trained in DBT, Brainspotting 1 and 2, and perinatal mental health through PSI.
You’re a quirky, empathic, sensitive and creative woman who is finally ready to motivate and find meaning, but stuck in a negative spiral and struggling with emotions. Many creative and empathic women struggle with highly sensitive temperaments and appear typical on the outside but often feel like a hot mess and struggle in their relationships, parenting, careers, health. We can’t get rid of emotions, nor do we want to! It’s what makes us human! Anyone can benefit from learning ways to better regulate or express emotions. Anxiety and emotions can suck, which is why you may choose to use food or something else to numb or distract.

I use EMDR & Brainspotting to get to the root of what’s going on.
You are really tired. If you’re being honest, your head is spinning & you’re anxious a lot of the time. It’s keeping you from being able to rest, let alone enjoy life. Your thoughts are moving so fast, that it’s hard to stay focused. Now you’re starting to have headaches, racing heart, & tightness in your chest. You’re not sure what to do about it. All you know is that you don’t feel your best & believe your letting people down. You feel disappointed & wonder what is going on with you. Usually things go according to plan and right now that is definitely not happening. It’s starting to become too much.

I use an integrated approach that blends my background in perinatal/maternal mental health and yoga with the brain-body centered technique of Brainspotting that works to heal emotional wounds and trauma from the inside out.
Teaching you how to rise and flow on the journey of parenthood is my passion. I help you learn tools to support yourself so that parenting feels connected and joyful. My own entry into motherhood was a journey in itself—miscarriage, medical complications and postpartum anxiety. It was this experience that inspired me to work with others on their journey of parenthood. I'll work with you to manage challenges, build greater awareness of thoughts and feelings and improve balance in your life. I love to take an individualized approach to therapy based on your needs, and I see myself as a guide along a journey where you are the expert.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
