I believe that change is hard but not impossible. I work especially well with people who are struggling with anxiety, depression, life transitions, and spirituality. I work mainly through trauma-informed therapy, reality therapy, EMDR, and internal family systems therapy, though I am open to other approaches to counseling. Individuals and families are welcome in my office to receive empathetic and intentional mental health care. Although I am not able to prescribe medication, I understand it is often a major part of mental wellness and I can coordinate with any prescribing doctors who may already be part of your wellness team.

My "ideal client" knows to provide loved ones the very best, he or she must also be at an individual best. Short-changing the "self" depletes the ability to offer abundance to others. Whereas prospering in heart, health, mind, and body lead to connections of premium value. My clients look beyond the ordinary, knowing possibilities are endless and will be found with concerted effort and bravery. Keeping life fresh, free and filled with potential, elevates us all. When my clients depart they have renewed joy and gratitude because they are awakened to the gifts that were once just beyond their reach but now part their life scripts.

Throughout my life I have become so aware of the importance of having someone who will listen, someone who will offer compassion without judgment. Throughout my career I have strived to place that understanding in focus as I worked with individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, personality disorders, and the lifelong pains of trauma.

Are you constantly in battle with yourself? Or maybe you're out of those woods and it's time to start picking up the pieces but you aren't sure where to turn. You're stuck - just not where you want to be in your career, your relationships, in life in general. Often, when we take a step back from the mess, we're able to see more clearly. We're able to make decisions more clearly. We're able to simply "be." That journey is not one that you have to go on alone.

I love that there is always room for discovery in life. I see therapy as an avenue for self-exploration, creating movement, healing and growth. Life challenges and hardship can stall movement. This often leads to feeling anxious, afraid, angry, shameful, depressed and stuck. Therapy can be an effective tool in creating healthy resolution to issues that create suffering, deepening your awareness and self-acceptance, allowing you to experience more joy, peace, pleasure and authenticity in your life. My approach is person centered, creative, down to earth and often playful, respecting uniqueness and honoring the vulnerability necessary to be genuine.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
