Welcome, I'm Evelyn Dougherty and I've been a practicing therapist for over 20 years. Whether your in emotional pain from a loss, a break up, relationship stress, raising children, caring for older parents, health issues or challenges at work - I will work to support you and help you to grow emotionally so your in a better position to deal with what life challenges you face. My short term work is individual and couples counseling my longer term therapy is group and couples group.

I love helping clients who feel stuck with anxiety, depression, or trauma become “unstuck.” In my therapy space, I strive to create a supportive environment for people to explore their emotions – and the experiences that shaped those emotions. With individuals, couples, and families, I work collaboratively to understand how previous dynamics, especially with families of origin, contribute to their current thoughts and coping skills. When clients understand how their past relationships influence their current selves, they are better able to build new futures, with greater self-acceptance, growth, new skills, and overall happiness.

**NOT ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS. I have experience working in various mental health settings, providing psychotherapy as well as early childhood intervention and crisis intervention. I have and continue to pursue training in the impacts of trauma and loss as well as depth oriented psychotherapy. Furthermore, I am a trained yoga instructor and specialize in integrating traditional psychotherapy with body awareness when relevant. However, I also believe in working collaboratively with the client to create a therapy plan that works best for the individual.

Using the therapeutic process I can offer many things to people: empathy and a sounding board, other ways of looking at issues, and ideas about how to solve problems. In addition, I can help you feel more alive to your experience as paying attention to your inner voice can increase your capacity to feel and be present. I have been a therapist for over twenty years. I also have taught clinical practice for ten years to students earning their masters degrees in counseling and I provide ongoing clinical supervision for people who work in various settings.

I am a professionally certified yoga teacher.

My work with each client is integrative and dynamic. My "home base" is in contemporary feminist psychodynamic therapy, but I utilize techniques from CBT, DBT, internal family systems, mindfulness, and sensorimotor psychotherapy to tailor my approach to a client's presenting needs. I'm a firm believer that a person will not feel safe exploring difficult areas in therapy if they don't feel comfortable with the human sitting across from them. Therefore, I want you to see my personality and sense of humor as we collaborate, so that we can build a strong working relationship built on trust and mutual understanding.
