I specialize in psychological assessment, including assessment of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and learning disabilities, such as dyslexia, problems with math, and problems with writing. I provide autism evaluations, as well as assessments for many other types of behavioral and emotional concerns. I also specialize in evaluations to assess for giftedness and am involved with a variety of gifted groups. I conduct testing necessary for private school admissions and for accommodations on standardized tests (SAT, ACT, LSAT, etc) and in higher education settings. I work with clients of all ages, from young children to adults.

I have specialized training and education in treating ADHD in children and adults, in prenatal and postpartum mood and anxiety disorders, substance abuse, and trauma. I utilize a type of therapy called Somatic Experiencing to heal trauma which aims to restore the individual's nervous system to a less reactive state.

I have a passion for working with people with complex trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, as well as other struggles. I am certified in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) and utilize that modality in addition to traditional therapy to help people process and overcome their challenges. I use a direct, structured, and goal oriented approach while also offering hope and compassion when working with my clients. EMDR is most well known for treating trauma, but I have found success in treating OCD and various other phobias also.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Missouri and Kansas. I am also a Licensed Addictions Counselor in Kansas and a Certified Addictions Counselor in Missouri. I have worked with adolescents in crisis and suffering from addictions since 2000. I have worked with adults and veterans with Co-occurring Disorders and trauma since 2006. I specialize in working with adolescents and adults who have experienced trauma, addictions, and grief and loss issues. I utilize Cognitive Behavior Theory, Mindfulness, Motivational Enhancement Theory, and Solution Focused to help individuals identify and cope with mental health issues.

Dr Tristen Winston is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in both KS & CA and a Licensed Clinical Addiction Counselor (LCAC). She works from a humanistic and evidenced-based perspective and enjoys working with adults, teens, couples and families. Dr Winston has extensive clinical experience working with addiction, mental health and domestic violence. Dr Winston continues to give back to the next generation of therapists as an adjunct professor & donates clinical time for military veterans and their families through Give an Hour.
