Has life thrown a lot at you? Maybe you’ve successfully gotten through past difficulties, only to find your old ways of coping no longer serve you. Let’s work together to find your healing. With warmth and acceptance, I work to unlock your connection to and trust in your strengths, wisdom, and creativity. We'll shape an understanding of who you are, where you’d like to be, and what tools work for you to build skills and find solutions to your goals. Using my foundation in the neurophysiology of stress and trauma, I will partner with you to cultivate cognitive and body-based tools to cope and find new responses to present challenges.

You are more than enough! Allow therapy to help you actualize your greatness! Throughout life, we experience deep spiritual wounds from intergenerational trauma and daily incidents in our attempt to navigate hostile environments and systems. Our efforts to be vulnerable and acknowledge our feelings typically go unheard, so we normalize toxicity to cope or survive. Healing requires intentionality, awareness, and the ability to trust ourselves. I utilize an integrative approach that is uniquely designed to meet your needs. Most importantly, I care. Allow me to be your guide to help you reconnect with yourself.

I've spent my entire professional life working with people who have trauma, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, or a psychotic disorder. My clients are fighting a hard fight, and I value being in it with them. I called my web site "Audeo", which is Latin for "I dare", because my typical client needs some courage just to look up a therapist (or *another* therapist) and I respect it. When it was hard for you to show up for therapy, or use your coping skills, or get up today, you have my respect. You might be doing everything right when you don't feel right at all.

ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS: Asking for help takes great courage and strength. By even looking at this paragraph, you are displaying that very strength and resilience that will help you to heal what ails you and achieve your goals. As a therapist, I am here to recognize the strength in you that you might have forgotten or even struggle to see. Some may think their problem is insignificant, but reaching out to speak to someone no matter how big or small, is a step. It is my hope that you will allow me the chance to be your partner in that journey.

Waitlist for new clients
The clients I work alongside of often seek reflection and changes in their life. This can sometimes be scary, painful, intimidating and occasionally leading to leave things as they are. However in my experience, the thirst for a more fulfilling life is always present. Sometimes hiding behind a hobby or creative interest, music we listen to, places that make us feel at home or a certain moment of the year when we feel more hopeful. I deeply enjoy helping my clients find those special pieces of fulfillment together. With time and intention, these later become the foundation for healing, change, and deeper reflection.

I believe that a person’s life is complex and multi-layered. Each person is marked by unique beauty, even when they find themselves in the darkest of times. We will inspect the past and present threads of your narrative, uncovering the patterns and connections that have influenced your growth, and embrace the unique intersections of your identity and experiences. I recognize that the therapy process is a vulnerable and sacred space, where we will work collaboratively to help you come to the place of healing and restoration.

Welcome! My practice is based on the belief that life brings us many challenges and at times we can get stuck. Feeling stuck can cause us to feel uncomfortable symptoms - anxiety, depression, anger, etc. I believe that therapy is a process where you can gain tools to address those challenges, determine what needs to be changed, work towards making those changes while navigating all the thoughts, feelings and emotions that may come up in the process. I strive to provide a compassionate and non-judgmental environment where clients can work towards living a value-driven, meaningful life.

I believe that every human was born with the innate ability to know themselves, to survive, and to thrive. We already have all the tools we need within us. As we develop and encounter a world filled with systemic oppression and trauma, our tools start to get dusty, sticky, and/or feel lost entirely. We start to question ourselves and our knowledge of ourselves. My job is to provide support as you illuminate the tools you already have, wash and dust them off, and restore yourself to connectivity and radical self love even in the face of our traumatizing and increasingly unsafe world.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
