Theories include: dance/movement therapy, elements from other creative arts therapies, mindfulness based techniques, client-centered, CBT, narrative, solution focused, and relational-cultural.
Therapy is a truly unique journey. I believe in the power of the mind-body connection and seek to help clients understand how their experiences affect their whole system. Connecting with clients brings me joy and I strive to cater my skill set to meet your specific needs. Often, I invite creativity in to help you heal and grow into a more integrated version of yourself. Movement is a helpful tool to build more awareness, but I also recognize that moving and exploring creatively in a therapeutic setting can be challenging. My hope is to help you feel more at home in yourself while finding a soft landing to do the work.

Our lives are made up of stories. Some chapters are beautiful, while some can be tragic. As we create our own narrative to the events of our lives, rushing to find some semblance of normalcy, we often become lost, challenged, overwhelmed. We forget there is beauty and resiliency in not only the events that bring us joy, but also the events that may not. As a licensed social worker, I work with you to identify meaning in each story that you share, finding a new and clearer perspective so you may live a happier life.

Congrats on taking first steps towards taking care of your mental health. Taking care of your mental health is not a sign of weakness; it is a commitment to your own strength and well-being. This process is not selfish, it is essential. I am here to help you embrace the glorious mess that you are and remind you of hope, even when your brain tries to convince you there’s none. Beyond developing a supportive and collaborative relationship with each other, my aim is to create a safe and nonjudgmental space for us to explore your thoughts, feelings, struggles, as well as your future goals.

I am passionate about assisting others as they draw meaning in their lives and seek to establish relational support when faced with adversity. Oftentimes it is difficult to connect from the inside out and from the outside in when we are hurting. Many individuals are longing for someone to hear, care, and validate their feelings. I have worked with diverse populations with a myriad of mental health challenges, and have come to an understanding that hurt and pain knows no race, creed, or ethnicity; we all share in these throughout our lifetime.

Everyone deserves to feel heard and seen. Change is scary. Uncertainty is scary. Each of these though are important for personal development and growth. I have always felt therapy is displaying patience, compassion, empathy and empowerment. I strive to bring these qualities to each session as well as incorporating light-hearted humor, which can go a long way! Rapport building within a client-clinician relationship is important to create a safe and respectful space for self-exploration. It's important to me to collaborate with each person to best support their own goals and wants for therapy, meeting the person wherever they are at.

Possibly one of the most overlooked yet effective approaches to taking care of yourself is the simple act of listening–listening to yourself, listening to your body, and having someone you trust listening to you. Listening is where I like to start – to ensure that before anything else, I take the time to understand who you are. Each individual takes a unique path and one of my goals is to embrace that in a collaborative and open treatment experience. I take a nonjudgmental and empowering approach to ensure that my clients are strengthening their sense of self while acknowledging the past and present challenges.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
