I believe that the foundation of therapy starts with a trusting relationship characterized by honesty, warmth, and empathy. Once this foundation is established, we will work together to confront personal challenges, explore your strengths, and set therapeutic goals. I will use a variety of techniques tailored to your specific needs in order to guide our sessions. My hope is that our work together will leave you feeling a greater sense of empowerment and self-compassion and provide you with a useful set of tools that you can implement outside of the therapeutic setting.

I will serve as a guide as you work through grief, anxiety, depression, difficult life transitions, and challenging relationships. In time, you will learn to turn toward the vulnerable, sad, angry, and fearful parts of yourself so you can feel grounded and calm, even in difficult situations. When working with couples, I take a balanced, non-judgmental approach to make space for each partner’s voice and perspective. Through our work, couples can reconnect, interrupt frustrating and ineffective communication patterns, process grief or infidelity, and learn to turn toward one another with empathy and curiosity.

Maybe you are unsure if you will ever be able to let go of the past or move forward from the people and events that have hurt you. You also may have realized that things from your past continue to affect you in the present, but are unsure how to address this. Healing from trauma can be a difficult journey, but you don’t have to do it alone. I believe you already have everything you need inside you to heal, and I will work with you to help you (re)discover that power. Working with me means that you will learn ways to tackle your triggers, break harmful patterns, and let go of what is holding you back.

Life is unavoidably full of transitions, stressors, disappointments, and losses that create blocks to the life you want to lead. I provide a break from the busyness, to explore where you are and where you want to go. That path to change may include new ways of relating to relationships, work demands, past trauma or other external factors. Additionally, growth may be shifts in internal dialogues that lead to challenges, like anxiety and depression. Whatever your goals, my role is to hold a compassionate space to be curious about your needs, to connect your past to your present, and to find a way forward towards the change you desire.

The key to successful therapy is a relationship with a caring, nonjudgmental therapist there to respond sensitively and patiently to whatever comes up. In my work, I offer that to my clients, as we collaborate in developing an understanding of your emotional states and how they drive your thoughts and actions. We’ll learn together what you need to strengthen and grow. My work with children and adolescents informs my understanding of development over the life span, and how those relationships and experiences that shape us are alive in the present moment.

In my practice, I provide individual therapy to adult survivors of trauma, grief and loss, including those navigating relationship loss, and general life adjustments. I stay curious with people who want to plant reparative seeds and explore what healing stories can grow from their hardships. I support those who want to re-author a life-story that centers new meaning-making, radical self-care, deliberate joy, and improved quality of life. While I specialize in the unique cultural experiences of Black women and women of color, my commitment to therapeutic care and wellness extends to all women, LGBTQ+ communities, and allies.

We all receive labels and messages from society and our upbringing that attempt to dictate how we operate in relation with others, what we’re worth, and how we perceive ourselves. I understand that the labels we receive from others, and the way we see ourselves are often times conflicting. These messages and attention or lack thereof can have a negative impact on our self-esteem, relationships, communication capabilities, perception of those around us, and self-worth. I offer a space to unpack these inconsistencies to discover contentment and congruence of self.

I am a telehealth convert. Prior to 2020, I could never have imagined that connecting with a therapist online would be so effective. But as a working parent myself, I have personally come to not only value, but depend on the flexibility and accessibility that telehealth provides for my clients. I utilize a variety of therapy modalities with a solutions-focussed core in order to meet the needs of my clients. My style is relational and client-centered. I come from a strengths-based perspective and rely on the principles of third wave cognitive behavioral therapy and understanding the impact of our early family systems.

My ideal client(s) are those struggling with both trauma and relationships. Trauma can deeply impact how we relate to others, whether it be experiences from childhood that have persisted in creating struggles over the life course, or impactful instances in adulthood a person still struggles with. I am especially interested in people who struggle with attachment issues in relationships. The ideal client is one who is receptive to change, can take ownership of their life, and has the capacity for self-reflection. They would be interested in creating a more fulfilling life for them, based on the meanings the create in their own lives.

Life presents us with pain and conflict that we have trouble navigating alone. Why is it that we often find ourselves in scenarios that seem to repeat themselves, even though we want differently?

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
