In the words of my hero, Mr. Rogers, I like you just the way you are. As an autistic therapist, I know what it's like to feel like the rest of the world is in a group text that you somehow missed. It's very important to me that you can bring your whole self to therapy - stims, interests, communication style and all. I'm a very collaborative therapist with an informal style, so I want to work together with you to make therapy accessible and affirming.

As we walk together, I will take care to employ a trauma-informed lens since I believe our pasts have a profound impact on our present and our future. Using this trauma-informed lens, I will be mindful of your current triggers, taking care to move at a pace that feels right to you while also empowering you to take steps toward your future goals. As a bicultural clinician, I welcome all variations of cultural expression and enjoy working with members of both the BIPOC community and the LGBTQ community.

Perhaps you’re a worst-case scenario thinker, frequently worrying something bad will happen, and often feel exhausted by this and the inherent lack of peace. Perhaps you experience social anxiety - the idea of meeting new people or interacting with others tends to trigger feelings of self-doubt, fears of being judged or not measuring up. Or perhaps within your close relationships, anxiety has translated into an overly critical or controlling demeanor. Though you don’t intend this, feeling powerless in other areas of life or always having had to be the responsible one may have caused you to have a tight grip on your life.

Infidelity leaves us feeling hopeless, defeated, and angry. Maybe you’re someone who has always said infidelity is a “dealbreaker” but now find yourself facing this with your partner, hoping it isn’t actually the dealbreaker you’ve always known it to be. You may be experiencing symptoms of anxiety, depression, or searching for solutions after an affair that has left you feeling hopeless and out of control. But you’re ready to move forward. You’re ready to take one step forward, toward healing. Most of all, you’re ready to be on the other side of this seemingly insurmountable hill, I want to help you get there.

Do you feel stuck? Are you feeling anxious and alone? Are you wondering if you can find help? Often we feel this way and it is a miserable place to be. What I know is this: there is hope, you can get unstuck and find more peace in your life. I want to hear your story and assist you in finding new and healthy ways to navigate your life. I, too, have suffered with anxiety and hopelessness. With my faith in God, a couple of supportive friends and a caring therapist I did get the help I needed.

Are you in a stage of life that’s filled with change? You may be starting your career or transitioning out of college and wondering “What’s next?” Maybe you’re trying to figure out who you really are, untangling what you’ve been told all your life from what’s truly important to you. It feels like there are more questions than answers, and you’re tired of this anxiety, overwhelm, or lack of motivation holding you back. You have ambitions and goals for your life, relationships, and career, but can’t seem to get out of this rut on your own. You’re ready to make a change.

I work with individuals who come from a background with narcissistic, abusive, neglectful, hypercritical, or disengaged parents/guardians to modify any unwanted behaviors they developed in order to survive in that environment. This can often include issues with codependency, self-worth, identity, and/or limiting relational beliefs.

I love helping people work through their traumatic life experiences and helping them understand the effects of those events. If this applies to you or someone you care about, I am here to walk with you as you explore those things that leave you feeling "stuck" and guide you as you move forward into a better space. I work with individuals, children, families, and couples. My training has given me special insight into how trauma is passed down through the generations and the effects those traumas have on your life today. I want to share that insight with you.

My hope is that through therapy, you can come home to yourself, live more fully alive, and experience deep and transformational healing. Life can quickly become overwhelming, dysregulating, and agonizing in the aftermath of a traumatic event or after years of experiencing complex and compounding life stressors. I want you to know you’re not alone and I’m here to offer you a safe space to experience relief and healing. My love for therapy brought me into this field and it is such an honor to do the work I do. In our sessions together, I desire to create a safe space where you are heard, fully seen, and accepted just as you are.

I utilize an eclectic therapy style depending on the client that I am treating. I am most comfortable with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and attachment theory. Attachment theory gives the client and therapist a deeper understanding of the individual and CBT gives the necessary skills to begin to grow. I believe in building a relationship with the client to better understand and trust one another during our time together.

I love cycling, football, movies, reading, spending time with loved ones, and helping others. My ideal client is willing to be vulnerable and transparent. Someone who knows what it is to struggle but also wants to improve their life. I have 15 years of experience as a Registered Nurse working with babies, children, and adults. I am also a mom to a child on the autism spectrum. I use these experiences to enhance my relationship with the people I work with. I desire to help others heal, grow, and reach their fullest potential. Life is hard, I have experienced a lot of hardship, but there is beauty to be found if we seek it.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
