I work from an attachment and psychodynamic approach.
As humans, we seek love and acceptance to become whole. Somewhere in our lives, we became broken due to external circumstances beyond our control or choices that we have made. The therapeutic relationship offers healing and provides hope and acceptance. Helping clients come to a place of congruence and authenticity where they value and accept themselves is my primary goal. I believe I can genuinely change the trajectory of my clients’ lives through healing and guide them to achieve a powerful transformation . My desire is to provide a safe place for you to share your thoughts and feelings freely .

My orientation combines both psychodynamic and cognitive based approaches.
My clients come from many walks of life but have one thing in common - they would like to improve their overall quality of life. Perhaps the wounds from their past or stressors from their present are adversely impacting their lives. My goal is to work collaboratively with my clients to improve their current level of functioning. My practice includes working with adults, college students, adolescents, couples, and families. I also co-lead groups with my husband who is also a psychotherapist, and I work with master's level and doctorate interns who are completing their therapy/supervison hours for licensing.

It has been a while since you felt stuck, terrified, hopeless, or worthless. Yet, you have always been smiling to pretend you are okay. Or you are very used to distancing yourself because “nobody cares about me”. Life can be very challenging when you can hardly recognize the person next to you, more importantly, when you can’t even recognize yourself. Whether it has been years over the same issues and difficulties, or there has been a sudden tragic change to your life, believe it! You are already doing the best you can at any given moment!

Being an adult can be overwhelming, stressful, and chaotic at times. Between work demands, financial stress, keeping up with all of your obligations, and working toward your goals, you may feel like you're barely holding on. When you add anxiety, depression, unresolved childhood trauma, or health challenges to the mix, the responsibilities of adult life get even harder. You want to have more self-confidence and learn to manage life's highs and lows but don't know where to start.

I will join with you to establish short-term or long-term treatment goals based on your expressed needs. I do believe that our history has contributed to who we are today. I take the time to learn about your family of origin and significant events from the past, while focusing on how this impacts your life now. Awareness of patterns is especially helpful in breaking cycles of unhealthy behavior. My approach to both individual and couples therapy is attachment-based. The ability to connect with others while maintaining a clear sense of ourselves is a focus in therapy.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
