I enjoy working with teens, adults, and families with a variety of mental health concerns. I have training, experience, and a special interest in working with individuals and families coping with grief and loss. In supporting hundreds of individuals and families mourning a death, I recognize how unique grief is to each one of us. I work to normalize and validate the diversity of one's grief experiences to promote hope and healing. As a parent of a child with ADHD and Autism, I also have an interest in supporting families in navigating the joys and challenges that come with raising neurodivergent children.

Some of my areas of interest include working with clients experiencing the effects of grief and loss, anxiety, depression, social inequities, and trauma.
As a therapist, I aim to provide my clients with a safe, nonjudgmental environment for them to explore their thoughts, behaviors, and emotional experience. My approach focuses on empowering clients to explore their inner strengths and resources to enable them to navigate their concerns and stressors, and to take steps toward living a life in the ways that are meaningful to them. With each client bringing their unique experiences to therapy, I tailor each session to the individual needs of the client.

Focusing on strengths and incorporating elements of CBT, mindfulness, and EMDR, I work with youth, adults, and families to overcome challenges associated with conflict, trauma, grief/loss, anxiety, depression, and life transitions.
Life can feel overwhelming when you're trapped in negative emotions. Your nervous system is on overdrive. You're exhausted, but unhelpful thoughts keep you from feeling rested. You're irritable. You feel like something is wrong with you. Even minor inconveniences feel like they have the power to derail your whole day. Your relationships suffer - at work, at school, at home, and with yourself. These negative emotions can feel like they've swallowed you whole; you yearn to feel calm, light, and free so you can enjoy your life, your relationships, and your own company again.

Are you feeling stressed and fear you will "burn out?" Are you grieving the death of a loved one or loss of something important to you (e.g., job or relationship)? Are you going through a life transition (e.g., leaving home for the first time, health change, retirement, aging)? Even positive changes can leave us feeling unsettled for a while! Have you experienced trauma (e.g., car accident, sexual assault, natural disaster) or vicarious trauma as a healthcare provider who has heard about or witnessed traumatic events of your patients? If any of these fit for you, I'd love to assist you in your journey back to vitality.

Are you experiencing feelings of hopelessness, depression, anxiousness, or becoming overwhelmed? Have you been experiencing a lack of community and connection, difficulty with family relations, or a loss of sense of self? These are just a few of the many challenge’s life can bring us. It can be even more difficult to navigate these challenges with minimal support or without the necessary coping strategies in place. It takes courage to seek out and ask for help in your journey towards healing. I value the importance of establishing a trusting therapeutic relationship in order to move towards healing.

In our society, we are taught that there are expectations on how to grieve and given a predetermined timeline for grief to run its course. One thing I have learned throughout my work is that there is not one definition of grief and everyone has their own experience. How we choose to process our grief can impact the direction of our lives. I believe that by providing a safe, supportive environment I can help you navigate your grieving process in a way that feels healing for you.

I help men and women handle breakups or relationship difficulties, cope with being single, navigate dating, create healthy relationships, manage anger/ frustration, deal with depression, explore adoptee issues, and adapt to change or loss. I serve families with children who are pushing boundaries, fighting with or blaming others, worrying excessively, yelling/talking back, lacking appropriate social skills or have poor self-esteem. Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
