Being a person can be hard! If you are struggling with depression, anxiety, grief and loss, relationship or substance use issues, or any of the difficult feelings that come with being human, I want to help! When you learn to trust your own intuition, identify your needs, and define your boundaries, you are better able to advocate for yourself and create the life you want. I focus on helping each individual to make deep connections, uncover your inner strength and wisdom, and cultivate a meaningful, fulfilling life. At times, you may just need a little extra support wherever you're at, and I'll meet you there!

Real change comes from understanding why our own impulses and behaviors hold us back from experiencing our true potential and discovering the skills to create the change we seek. I believe in a holistic, person-centered approach to therapy that helps people find the answers that were inside them all along. As a therapist, I am intuitive and compassionate, yet direct, and employ a mix of modalities, including traditional psychotherapy, cognitive therapy and mindfulness techniques.

I believe it takes courage to begin the process of change. With that spirit, I try to embody the African Proverb: “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” I believe we can all heal, change and grow, particularly when we have support and love in the process. I feel deeply honored to walk arm in arm in therapy with the clients I see. In both my therapeutic work and personally, I value humor, compassion, and sincerity. The therapist you choose is someone whom you’ve entrusted to build a safe and healing relationship.

Life offers us various challenges. Sometimes these challenges come in the form of a life transition, an interpersonal conflict, or a persistent mental health concern. Therapy offers us an opportunity to explore these challenges and move through them in an intentional manner.

Let me help you on your path to healing. Therapy is a source of growth, understanding, and change. We often repeat the same patterns without knowing why or understanding how to break free of these unhealthy cycles. By working together with my clients, we can begin to recognize these patterns and get to the underlying root of where and how they might have developed. This process helps to give my clients better clarity and insight of their own emotional experience, inner world, and behaviors.

You just can't take it anymore. You are juggling so much, taking care of everything for everyone, and you feel like you're ready to snap! The anxiety and pressure are becoming too much. Your mind won't stop racing, you're having trouble sleeping, and you end up crying in your car from the overwhelm. You wonder what's wrong with you and how others make it look so easy. You have a hard time trusting yourself and prioritizing what you want and need - hell, you don't even know how to do that! You feel too guilty to put yourself first, but you know you need some balance in your life. You want to relax but wonder - am I asking too much?

I work with individuals who are 16 + years old and are motivated to engage in therapy. I value the therapeutic relationship. I view therapy as the two of us working together as a team to reach your goals. I use a person center, strengths based approach and value using many different modalities to fit a person's needs. I primarily work with individuals who are seeking help related to depression, anxiety, grief and loss counseling, life transition situations, chemical dependency issues, family member of someone struggling with chemical dependency, maintenance care for psychosis/psychotic spectrum disorders and panic disorders.

Entering therapy is a bold, brave commitment to examining your life as it is and creating the life you choose to live. As a therapist I use a variety of modalities to assist you in reaching your particular goals. Cognitive behavioral therapies are effective for treating a variety of issues and insight-oriented therapies are better suited for other issues. You and I will map the therapy course together, collaboratively. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is extremely important and strive to create a warm, approachable and genuine therapeutic alliance.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
