I understand what it’s like to want to appear like you have it all together, but deep down you are struggling with learning to cope with things that have happened in your life. Even the thought of going to therapy seems embarrassing, but you know for certain that life has to get better than it currently is. As much as you strive to be the best, there are times where you lack confidence and motivation to live life to the fullest, and you know that there is more for you ready to be revealed. You are ready to unpack the baggage that has been weighing you down, so that you can start to create new patterns in your life & relationships.

As a licensed clinical social worker, I work with individuals and families about personal life challenges they are facing. Besides addressing concerns that the pandemic brought with it, there are the usual issues regarding relationships, work, school, health, loss and grief. My approach is to work collaboratively with a client, focusing on strengths and the person’s natural inclination to move toward health and balance. Therapy is an opportunity to address and support change and growth.

I pride myself in providing a safe space where you, as a client, can retreat, and discover healing through conversation, art, music, skill building, and other activities. I will work with you to decide what you would like to accomplish in therapy, and how, along with providing from the wisdom of my own experiences. I strive to support a diverse client base, allowing me to focus on the challenges of mental health in the context of culture, the immigrant experience, living in the margins, identifying as LGBTQ+, and other identity related challenges.

I have experience working within inpatient psychiatric hospitals, forensic prisons, and community mental health. These settings have radicalized my approach to therapy. We will explore social and cultural systems, and varying levels of oppression and privilege that we may experience every day. Most importantly, we will explore how mental health and preservation is impacted by these systems. As a queer therapist, I am curious, warm, and open to my clients, while sometimes giving the gentle push needed while healing.

Do you find yourself making a list of people you care about, only to find your name not on it? Maybe in the course of caring for others and being their "shoulder to cry on", you take their problems to heart, to try and lighten their load. A focus on their problems ensue, but before you know it, you're always tense, not giving your all at work or at home. You just want to go back to your "normal life", but find it difficult, almost impossible to do so.

I am a clinical psychologist who specializes in individual and couples therapy. My primary areas of clinical experience are depression, anxiety, life transitions, womens' issues, and couples therapy. Each client is a unique individual who comes to therapy with a particular concern or problem which they wish to explore and amend. Therapy can give a client the needed support to translate feelings, thoughts, insights, and yearnings into coherent sense and meaning. Therapy is a process, not an event. As such, clients can progress and change at a pace and level of challenge that is comfortable, safe, and ongoing.

At Spring Forward Psychotherapy, LLC, my mission is to provide high-quality, compassionate care to adults and teenagers (14 and older) struggling with mental health issues or who need help processing daily life and routine stressors. I compound the benefits of movement, nature and thought processing by providing therapy as "walk and talks" in local parks (or via teletherapy). Therapy is a safe and confidential space to lay out your first draft of ideas without judgment to allow you to process and refine and edit thoughts before sharing with loved ones and your support network.

You may be feeling that the world is closing in on you, because life's pressures are so overwhelming, and you're ready for a change. Panic attacks, anxiety, trauma, or your relationships may be getting the best of you, or you are struggling to help your child manage feelings of anxiety. It feels that your relationships or even life in general could use an overhaul, because the challenges you have faced are beyond what you expected. You know that feeling better is possible, but you forget what feeling good is like. More than anything, you no longer want to do it alone, and you are ready to bring peace & calm into your life.

Are you overwhelmed, anxious or stressed out all the time? Maybe you had an expectation about what life might be like but the reality is so much harder. You just want to feel better, to be happy and connected. Instead of enjoying your time with your family, you just feel angry or anxious all the time.

Therapy is a gift of time set aside to pause and acknowledge how you’re feeling, and what you need. In times of high anxiety, frustration, or loneliness, it’s important to develop meaningful ways to be present with our emotions and to learn new ways to nurture ourselves in the midst of life’s challenges. I specialize in relational therapy, a type of therapy that focuses on the quality of your relationships, both with yourself and with others. The goal in therapy is to help you navigate current challenges, past traumas, and to develop more healthy relationship patterns moving forward.

Instilling hope and resilience through treatment is a hallmark of our work in this sacred space! As a LGBTQ cis woman of color, I have both lived & clinical experience that attest to the importance of using a culturally-centered & trauma-informed approach that gives my clients the space to heal, no matter their background. My priority is to allow my clients the space to learn to go through their healing journey on their own terms, and hold space for them when the journey feels insurmountable. I believe that connecting to one's human-ness allows an empowering platform that allows clients to reach their full potential.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
