My approach is informed by a narrative therapy, mindfulness, anti-oppression, healing justice, and LGBTQIA+ affirming framework.
I believe that with intention therapists are activists. I envision therapy as a radical healing space where communities of color, especially Black communities, can feel empowered and validated in spite of life’s messiness and structural oppression. As a co-parenting Black mama and marriage and family therapist intern, it is important for me to serve Black families of all kinds in order to help them cultivate deeper love, safety, and healing.

Let's face it, therapy can be so difficult to start. How do I find the perfect therapist? How do I know if this is a match for me? Are my problems even worthy of therapy? We've all been there and often times, making the decision to start therapy is the hardest part. I do my best to provide a safe space where you can feel comfortable answering all of these questions with me. Whether you're facing anxiety, depression, relationship issues, or just want a space to talk about the stressors of your day, I'm here to listen.

Life is a challenge; sometimes we feel up for it and sometimes we don’t. The world has become an even stranger place over the past several years and many people find themselves unsure how to manage. I think asking for help is the healthiest choice with the healthiest long term outcome. I would work to establish a collaborative and creative partnership with you in order to help you achieve your personal goals. I believe in a client-focused, strength based, holistic approach to therapy where together we work to identify and reduce both the symptoms and causes of distress.

Life transitions can be painful. When we feel sadness or anxiety, we can often feel debilitated, empty and alone. Building inner capacity allows for openness and movement towards a better relationship with ourselves and others, in turn, creating long term resilience and self-awareness. I believe that if you are open to this kind of exploration in therapy, I can help you. Working through an anti-oppressive, empowerment lens, I will meet you in the moment, work creatively to bring light to ongoing patterns, and work collaboratively with you- as you are.

Kudos to you! It takes such strength to acknowledge and respond to your needs and therapy is an incredibly effective way of gaining insight to promote self growth and achieve happiness. Our behaviors and day to day interactions with the world and the people in it, as well as how we feel about it, are based on a series of different parts; our thoughts, our experiences and our life events. My aim is to help you navigate difficult events, repair unhealthy interactions and get to the root of the issue; reframing unproductive thoughts and negative experiences so it is no longer hindering and you can become a better you.

In the fast-paced world we live in, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by expectations at work and in our personal lives. We’re often too busy to notice that we feel burnt out, anxious, or unfulfilled until we reach our tipping point. Even then, it can still be unclear how we can improve and there never seems to be enough time to figure it out.

Everyones initial thought and direction is to ensure that everything goes well for them in all areas of their lives - family and community. Unfortunately, during social interaction and general communication there is no guarantee that all will go well. Their feelings can be hurt, cognitive functioning adversely affected, all of which can lead to the display of unacceptable behavior. Our defenses can become weak. Assistance can be sought to enable the individual to get through those mishaps. The care which I can offer clients will enable them to work on their needs, attain goals to become once again positively functional.

I specialize in working with adolescents and adults who are having difficulty adjusting and/or transitional issues related to life events, anxiety, unhappiness, and trauma. Issues of adjustment in young adulthood are areas of particular interest to me. These years have proven to be a crucial time to explore emotions around experiences, so that healthy coping mechanisms can positively influence behavior and thinking during adulthood. I currently work with children, adolescents and adults who are ready to explore these issues in hopes to become a better version of themselves.

Famed poet Maya Angelou once said, “there is no greater agony then bearing an untold story inside you”. I believe we all have untold stories. Our life stories can produce emotional discomforts and be a source of unresolved pain. With over 20 years’ experience I can support you in the therapeutic journey to gain awareness, insight, and understanding into beliefs about self that disrupt relationships and daily functioning. I specialize in work with couples, but also work with individuals to address an array of life challenges. I am currently completing certification in couples therapy and certification as a sex therapist.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
