I work with couples who are committed to improving their relationships and individuals whose goals are to heal from personal or intergenerational traumas, minority related stress such as BIPOC, LGBTQIA and Non-Monogamous identity or relationship stressors. Their ideal goals would be to improve their relationship, learn effective communication skills, manage emotional triggers and learn how to regulate their mood. The objective would be to develop the insight, self-confidence, and concrete skills to shift from feelings of shame, guilt or anger to feelings of empowerment, confidence and love to have healthier lives and relationships.

Life can feel like a cluster of challenging, confusing, and never-ending hurdles. When left to tackle them on your own, it can sometimes feel overwhelming. I believe in creating a safe, non-judgmental, compassionate, and empowering space to process past difficulties, current stressors, and future anxieties. I aim to create an atmosphere of emotional safety, trust, and respect. My therapeutic style is a collaborative, client-centered and culturally sensitive approach. Together, we will explore obstacles that hinder your ability to reach your fullest potential and work to overcome your personal or professional difficulties.

I take a simple approach to therapy. My mission is to provide a safe and non judgmental space where we can explore and learn about those issues that may be keeping you from living your best life. I enjoy using a Gestalt model of interaction that says that however we show up in the present moment contains valuable information about the way we do our lives so we don't need to dwell on our past or harp on the way we think. This journey is all about the heart and the way we feel our way through life.

When you determine that you should seek counseling services I keep in mind that each individual is different biologically, psychologically, sociologically and economically. I also understand that receiving a diagnosis will have an impact on you, your family, friends, lifestyle and social situation. As a counselor I am aware that left untreated many disorders can escalate and in some cases as in substance abuse cause chemical changes in the brain, with mental disorders left untreated can have a negative impact on your life.

No longer recognize the child in your home? Do you want your child back? If you want to regain a sense of love, peace, respect and stability within your home, I am here to assist you! Families typically begin their greatest challenges during the youth’s adolescent years. Adolescents can present with a myriad of challenges (i.e.: mental health, social, familial). Parents can then struggle to communicate effectively with their youth leading to increased stress and family conflict. Ultimately, both are seeking understanding, stability, and peace.

Trauma impacts all areas of life. We may experience sudden, intrusive memories of childhood experience. We may struggle to manage our own children, and we may have problems connecting with others and building healthy relationships. Psychotherapy can help you re-frame your experience, and assist you in identifying, clarifying and prioritizing your values and coping skills, opening the door to a more meaningful life.

For me, mental wellness is extremely personal, since I believe that everyone deserves support in achieving and maintaining mental well-being. My approach to the therapeutic relationship is compassionate, flexible and supportive as I enjoy working collaboratively with clients' on their self-discovery and healing journeys. I understand that recovery and peace of mind is attainable through work, reaching out for help, utilizing natural resources, and connecting with a higher power. The journey through life is not easy for some, but living a life of purpose is achievable for those who seek it.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
