Most of the clients I see have a history of trauma—physical or sexual abuse, neglect, or developmental trauma, which is the residue of dysfunctional caregiving. I believe strongly that people are naturally inclined to heal; our bodies and minds lean toward wholeness, even if it often feels like we can’t get there. While we go on with our day-to-day lives, acting as though everything is okay, the parts of us that were hurt—most often young parts—are still waiting and hoping for some kind of resolution to their pain. In therapy we look for those parts and take care of them; we nurture them and help them heal.
I am certified in both Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and Interactive Guided Imagery (sm). I use somatic therapy and imagery in the context of traditional talk therapy to help people recover from trauma, attachment issues, depression, and anxiety; I also work with illness and chronic pain. These modalities are gentle, powerful, and deeply transformative.
I know how difficult it can be to reach out for help. In fact, it may be the most courageous thing you ever do.
