There are many difficulties that bring people to counseling, ranging from relationship and family conflict, to conflict within one's own self.
Hi! I’m Dennis. I’m here to journey with you as you face your life's challenges. My approach is 'Person-centered', meaning I believe the answers to your dilemmas are found inside you. I merely help you unlock those answers by connecting with the intuition you originally had inside you but may have lost along the way. Often to connect with our intuition, life requires us to face and overcome all our personal fears and anxieties, including the shield of anger and depression we sometimes hide behind. I practice at Insights (Insurance) and New Hope Counseling (cash pay for former clients). I am ready to listen and hear you. Come see!

I am committed to my clients and would love to get to know you, your partner, your family, and get started on this healing journey with you.
I specialize in working with individuals, couples, and working with teens and their parents. I know it can be difficult to navigate relationships, to feel connected to your partner, to experience depression and anxiety, to be faced with faith challenges, to not know how to deal with a past trauma, and to experience feelings of worthlessness and confusion with who you really are. It can feel difficult to know what steps to take to find peace and balance again. I believe in the ability to change as individuals, couples, and families and desire to meet you where you're at so you can get to where you want to be.

At Family Transitions Counseling, outcomes in therapy matter, but the people involved in that process matter to us as well.
In today's world there are more problems to face than we can sometimes count. At times it can be hard to know how to proceed, what to say, or how to cope. When searching for a counselor to help discover solutions to those problems, finding the right fit for you personally is critical. Given that the most important factor in the success of therapy is the client-therapist relationship, it matters that you connect in a confidential setting with a therapist with whom you feel comfortable to share the very personal struggles that you are going through right now so that you get the most effective help you can as quickly as possible.

Growing as a family is hard. Pregnancy and childbirth can be triggering. Perhaps you’re a seasoned parent who is starting to catch glimpses of your own parents in yourself despite your best attempts to avoid exactly that. Or, maybe you have a creative teen who has been struggling navigating today’s world, and it's been hard to find a therapist that "gets it" that you can trust to help. You just want some relief as you find your way through this phase in life.

Anson Family Counseling has an easy intake process so you can quickly get connected to your therapist.
Let’s get started together. It’s easy to feel alone, and we understand how hard change can be. At our core, we know that change is possible as we heal and strengthen our relationships with those who love us best. We improve our relationships as we “come to ourselves” with new clarity and bolstered commitment to openness and healthier habits of acceptance and connection.

I grew up in Mongolia where vulnerability was viewed as a sign of weakness in the community. Due to the culture, I had been trained to suppress my feelings throughout my life. I suffered silently when I had anxiety, depression, and traumas in my family of origin. I know how hard it is when nobody understands you, feeling numb while feeling a lot of emotions, and struggling to forgive while loving loved ones. However, I was lucky to find the right therapist who cared, cried, and helped me deeply. Therapy helped me to empower myself and bring change in my life.

Many of us find navigating the complexities of our closest relationships challenging. We often desire better relationships with our family members, but things never seem to work out the way we want. This can be painful when we are talking about the people we love most, such as our significant other, children, and parents. When we try to avoid conflict and hide our own feelings, this often leads to resentment, people-pleasing, and disconnection that gets worse over time.

I draw upon several modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Polyvagal Theory and EMDR. I believe that providing therapy is a privilege, and comes with responsibilities that must be respected. It is essential that clinicians are committed to doing their own inner work. Meditation, mindfulness and personal growth are at the core of everything I do. It is these practices that drove me to this field, and continue to guide me today.

Along with talk therapy, I use two bottom-up approaches, Accelerated Resolution Therapy and Internal Family Systems (parts work).
In life, we often feel overwhelmed, depleted, and in need of support. Maybe it is a struggle with anxiety or depression, a negative belief, an addiction or perhaps you have been hit by a marital betrayal or loss of connection. No matter the cause, therapy can be a means to hope and healing. According to Dr. Peter Levine, “Trauma is perhaps the most avoided, ignored, belittled, denied, misunderstood, and untreated cause of human suffering”. He describes trauma as “anything that is too much or comes too fast” or is hard on your body physically or emotionally. I believe we all have the ability to heal, grow, and transform.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
