Sometimes life takes a turn that we did not expect and the way we used to cope and survive no longer works for us. I am excited to join you on this path towards self-exploration while holding a safe place for you to discover, grow, and heal. I believe the therapeutic relationship is a critical component to making counseling work. I value the importance of hearing your unique story and the struggles you are experiencing. I work with clients 18 and older with specific various presenting concerns including: family of origin & attachment issues, adjustment to life changes, communication struggles, and boundary setting in relationships.

I enjoy working with people who want change, but don't know where to start. I specialize in helping people who grew up in difficult family situations and now struggle with relationships and/or depression and anxiety. We can call it trauma, complex trauma, borderline personality disorder or just being a person in this world. I work with people by thinking about relationships and attachment, and I also use evidence based practices including EMDR for trauma, DBT for emotion regulation and distress tolerance, and CBT for help understanding the inner workings of our minds and making changes to how we go through life.

Struggling with life changes, or emotions that seem out of control? Sometimes in life we need help sorting out problems and finding our way to the best solution. This is the reason I pursued a counseling career, after working as an educational professional for over 30 years. My experience in education provides me with knowledge of adolescent behaviors, goal setting and addressing family/parenting issues. I’ve honed my counseling skills to also be of help in adult issues such as grief & bereavement, life changes, motivation, as well as depression, anxiety and substance use/addiction disorders.

I believe that self-care and life balance are important, so you'll find me relaxing with my family on the weekends.
I enjoy and have experience helping children, adolescents, parents, and adults as they work through life's issues. Face it, we all need more "staff" or "tribe" in our corner at different times in our lives. I believe this can be especially true for kids which is why I love play therapy.

The one thing we share is the universal need to be heard without judgment or fear of shaming. The truth is, we have all been there, sometimes lost, sometimes angry, on top of the world then disillusioned. As much as we love our family and friends, sometimes they understand us the least.

I primarily serve Adults (ages 19-65) dealing with barriers including crisis intervention, , chronic illnesses, depression, anxiety, and complex family systems, as well as navigating grief & loss.
Have you found yourself feeling overwhelmed with life? Are you looking for a therapist who’s a real person with real feelings & emotions who understands that life is hard and can sometimes suck? Sometimes we just need someone to listen without judgement. Someone to help us work through the moments of “blah” feelings we all experience as humans. My goal as a therapist is to be exactly that for everyone I work with.

Ready to reach out and learn how you can rebuild a healthy relationship with your child and break the generational patterns that keep your family captive? The sand tray can become a safe space to express thoughts, fears, and hopes.
You are a loving caregiver, dedicated to your child. But lately, you have found yourself amid an emotional tempest, questioning your abilities and feeling like a parenting failure. Your child’s behavior has become increasingly challenging. Tantrums erupt at the most unexpected times, drawing judgmental glances from strangers and leaving you feeling embarrassed and ashamed. You often wonder how such a tiny human could evoke such intense guilt and self-doubt within you.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
