I taught family therapy at NYU School of Medicine and conducted Family Focused Grief Therapy at Memorial Sloan Kettering.
Are you an individual trying to lead the life you would like to have and not succeeding, or a married or unmarried couple in an unhappy relationship, or a parent coping with a child's behavior you don't understand? Together we can discover what is getting in the way of achieving your goals with others, and with yourself.

I have 24 years experience using and teaching the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model. It helps you get obstacles out of the way so solutions and connection can emerge, and works powerfully and gently to uncover your innate wisdom. I am the author of the award-winning IFS relationship book, "Bring Yourself to Love: How Couples Can Turn Disconnection into Intimacy," and many book chapters and articles. I see both couples and individuals in Providence and Newport, RI. I do not take any insurance.

Women (including trans and nonbinary individuals) face unique challenges across the lifespan, particularly during times of transition. Overwhelming emotions, irritability, anxiety, or low mood are all signs that a change is needed, quite possibly in the form of a skilled, compassionate therapist to help you navigate these experiences. I specialize in the treatment of anxiety, borderline personality disorder, and perinatal mental health. I love working with college-aged folks (particularly the Brown University community) and couples as well.

People are constantly moving towards life or moving away from it. My goal is to help individuals gain the skills to recognize these shifts but there is no cookie-cutter approach to therapy. By maintaining respectful curiosity for their unique story clients' values are clarified and their realities expanded. Someone I really admire once said, "you don't know what you think until you've said it." However which way you may be feeling "stuck" in life I invite you to come figure it out with me. Call me today to do a 15 minute free interview today so that we can make sure we are a good fit to schedule an appointment: +1-281-369-8984

We are a multiethnic and multiracial group practice that centralizes care for BIPoC and LGBTQIA+ communities. Clients who come to us are working though life challenges related to their identities. They are often in a process of self-exploration, working to make sense of their place and identity in the world where they are made to feel like "the other" and have been marginalized, traumatized, and blatantly microaggressed. We recognize the importance of finding providers who get it, from a shared and lived experience. Here, our aim is connect communities of color and queer communities with providers of color and queer providers.

If you're burned out, restless, stressed, or scared, supportive counseling can get you through a difficult transition. Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Relational Psychodynamic Therapy help you experience relief of troubling symptoms that occur during mood and trauma-related disorders.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
