My practice is focused on working with adolescents during their critical periods in life such as facing peer issues, family conflict, self-esteem and addressing parent-child conflict. I also work with adults struggling with depression, anxiety, relationship, and career issues. I use a supportive and practical approach to help clients identify and develop healthier ways to change behaviors that are no longer beneficial.

Accepting new clients! You’ve been called weird, quirky, or eccentric. You struggle to complete tasks at work or school on time, often have outbursts followed by bouts of guilt, and feel like others don't truly understand you. You're questioning yourself, your friends, family, and career. You feel overwhelmed and unmotivated. Everyone else appears to have everything figured out. You’re tired and yearning for a massive change.

As member of a law enforcement/military family, I recognize the unique challenges faced by first responder families.
Life happens, let's talk about it. I believe in creating a safe, client-centered space without shame or judgment. Being able to share your worries and concerns with a neutral third party allows us to redefine boundaries and priorities we might not have been able to otherwise. If you are struggling with issues in your marriage, career, friendships, or families, I am confident I can help you sift through what feels like the rubble of trauma and rebuild the best version of you.

As your therapist I am here for you and your family unconditionally, with no judgment, just support, consistency, honesty, and clinical expertise.
Growing up is hard, emotions are harder, and for many children and adolescence, these struggles have us adults worrying about their happiness and how it is impacting their daily life and functioning. And if a child has experienced something traumatic, the struggle is 10-times harder. I am here to work with you, your child, and your family to create an experience that not only helps you child better understand themselves and their emotions, but also enhance the parent-child relationship. Together, as a cohesive unit, we work to create a treatment experience that is uniquely tailored to your family’s wants and needs.

My modalities of practice include EMDR, trauma informed CBT, person-centered (Rogerian) approach and IFS (internal family systems).
We are all on this “spectrum” of humanness. Sometimes being a human is hard. Sometimes it is joyful, sometimes it is exhilarating, sometimes it is liberating, and sometimes it can be devastating. Welcome to your journey within the human condition. Reaching out can be difficult, but part of the human condition is that we are social creatures, and we need the tribe to survive. I believe that with the right resources and internal strengths, empowerment and guidance, we can be our best selves and learn to love the self that we are or have become, or who we have been – regardless of our past, current, or future circumstances.

Maintaining a healthy family dynamic is a challenging responsibility, and it can become overwhelming when there are complications like behavioral or emotional challenges, parent-child relationship issues, adjustment to major life changes, divorce, and communication problems. Most of us seek help when the ways we have learned to cope are no longer effective, leaving us confused, tired, and in pain. We understand that even if you carry it well, it doesn't mean it's not heavy.

Hello! My name is Emily. I am a licensed couple, family and child therapist. I have a lot of toys and games in my office for my kiddo clients so I always get asked if I see adults too. Yes, I see people of all ages! My background is in human development and the ways in which attachment, traumas, and other significant life experiences shape how our automatic nervous systems respond to environmental triggers, brain structure, and behaviors at each different life cycle stage. Anxiety, anger, mood shifts, loneliness, loss, detachment, fear of trust, chronic illness, people with higher sensitivities- these are some of my top areas.

As a marriage and family therapy intern, I offer services to individuals, couples, and families.
There are times when everyone feels like their struggles are too big for them to handle alone. When people feel unheard, unmotivated, overwhelmed, discarded, or misunderstood, it can be difficult to ask for help. Seeking therapy can be a big step, so I want you to know that my goal is to make clients feel comfortable enough to work on their issues, large or small. These issues could seem simple to outsiders; like procrastination, low self-esteem, or being unhappy in your current situation. However, in therapy I offer a nonjudgmental space where you and I can work together to figure it all out and to work toward YOUR goals.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
