Therapy is not 'one size fits all,' which is why I offer a range of treatment options, including EMDR, cognitive processing, CBT, DBT, prolonged exposure, internal family systems, and narrative exposure therapy.
Hi! I'm Carisa. I provide telehealth-based psychotherapy for adults, children, and families in Massachusetts and Florida. I specialize in the treatment of anxiety disorders and acute, chronic and/or complex trauma. My practice emphasizes a blend of evidence-based care, kindness and unconditional positive regard, which I have found to be the 'recipe' for success. I am a good fit for those seeking a collaborative therapeutic approach in which the wisdom you have gained from your lived experience is a welcomed and honored part of our work together. I prioritize autonomy, choice and informed consent throughout the therapy process.

*NOT ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS AT THIS TIME* In my previous position at McLean, I worked with adolescents/families struggling with mood disorders, anxiety disorders, personality disorders and related family and relationship issues such as adoption, interpersonal conflict, etc, in addition to work with adults with substance abuse disorders. I also enjoy working with couples and families struggling with problems such as difficulty communicating and problems with intimacy. I love my job and hope that my work with clients continues to benefit the community as much as it does my own development.

I draw from a range of experiential and evidence-based approaches including Internal Family Systems (IFS), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), psychodynamic therapy, and expressive arts therapies.
You might have had a bad break-up, lost a friend or loved one, or are just struggling to cope with the daily motions, seeking greater insight about changing patterns or navigating a confusing time in your life. You might be carrying the weight of so many untold stories and unfulfilled dreams within you, buried beneath years of struggle. You might be moving through life, feeling so fundamentally different, flawed, and alone at times. You might be wondering, "When can I finally breathe easier?" I see you, and I'm here. Through the questions you've been navigating as you journey into the unknowns of your self and your life,

I take a holistic approach, drawing from a variety of approaches to incorporate both the mind and body; most commonly incorporating acceptance and commitment (ACT), internal family systems (IFS), cognitive behavioral (CBT), and other creative outlets such as art, play, and yoga.
I believe everyone deserves a warm, safe space to process life's experiences! I will work with you in a collaborative manner that often involves education, encouragement, humor, and careful listening. Together, we will connect to your emotional experience, explore why certain patterns of thinking and behaving exist, heal wounds of the past, and create meaningful change for you. My focus is on supporting teens and young adults to compassionately navigate things like anxiety, depression, trauma, life stressors/transitions, self worth, identity, and relationships.

Life experiences, transitions, and relationships provide both an opportunity to be challenged and to grow. In my practice, I welcome adults, couples, adolescents and families who wish to improve the quality of any dimension of their lives - from professional, family and parenting relationships to emotional, interpersonal, or physical challenges. Drawing upon specialized training focused on gaining insight (psychodynamic), building skills to manage emotions and behaviors (cognitive behavioral) and understanding relationships (family systems/relational), I work closely with individuals to develop understanding and identify goals that address the distinct factors that may be inhibiting life pursuits or interfering with personal, academic, or professional satisfaction and success.

Welcome, you made it. Take a breath. My name is Liz and I offer a variety of therapeutic services for humans of all kinds. Many people I see, from adolescents to those in late adulthood, move through the world with queer and/or neurodivergent identities. They are seeking support managing the impact of chronic trauma, anxiety, stress, and depression, or looking for help navigating life transitions, peer relationships, and family interactions. They're looking for a reprieve from the inner critic and racing thoughts, they want to regain control, and feel peace. Most of all they want to be seen and heard for who they are.

Unfortunately, I am not accepting new clients at this time. It takes a lot of courage and commitment to look for a therapist for your family or your child, so first of all, it is wonderful you have gotten this far. The families and children I see are resilient and wanting things to improve, which means different things to each of them, and I'm here to help figure out how to do that. I aim to do the same with you, to work collaboratively with you and your child/family to find out what would really work at home and in your everyday lives.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
