I have specializations in working with trauma, family of origin issues, substance use disorders, dual diagnosis, identity development, and work with LGBTQ+ and CNM clients.
I am passionate about helping empower my clients effect change in their lives, as well as working with individuals who have struggled to be successful with other therapists. Change is possible, and I aim to provide access quality to mental healthcare service to those looking for healing and personal growth. I believe we stay stuck in patterns, until we become aware of how histories impact our present day functioning, and opt to make changes.

I have a special interest in working with individuals who are coping with family members that struggle with addictions and attachment wounds.
Are you seeking growth but feel confused, stuck or overwhelmed? I understand these feelings because I've been there too! We will move through this process together, to facilitate change, and set realistic goals, and I am here to support you in strengthening the tools that will help you succeed outside the therapeutic space. I value curiosity, humor, and openness in our sessions, and I am here to create a therapeutic space where authenticity is not just welcomed but celebrated.

Everyone believes you have it all together. The truth is it’s getting harder to cope with the stress from work, family, and relationships. Despite your achievements and strengths, you can’t tune out the voice that says you’re not "good enough". You struggle with setting boundaries and when you finally find the words to express your needs, you’re overcome with guilt and anxiety. You put yourself last and are often your own worst critic. You're exhausted by this pattern and are ready to make changes. You want to build your confidence and develop a more compassionate relationship with yourself.

We work with clients experiencing symptoms from many areas in their lives, including: anxiety disorders, depression, bipolar disorder, sexual abuse, domestic violence, trauma/complex PTSD as well as relationship challenges, couples/marital struggles, new mothers/parents, family discord, identity issues, life transitions and career/life balance.
Psychotherapy requires time and patience to work through the struggles that we've experienced, which can stem from years of unresolved inner conflict and pain. The therapeutic process can help reduce symptoms, overcome challenges and implement healing and positive change. Clients can become more introspective as well as insightful as they gain knowledge and understanding in how they are the authors of their life story.

As a relational therapist, my aim is to support clients in striving towards safety, security, and authenticity – whether it is individually, as a family, or in romantic relationships. A focus of mine is dyads, where I help dissolve distance or conflict while building a base of emotional closeness. I also grew up as a “third culture kid” and have interest in supporting 1st or 2nd generation immigrants explore cultural attunement with themselves or their communities. Happy to address these areas: relational conflicts, attachment losses or ruptures, depression, anxiety, complex trauma, stress management.

Perhaps you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or hopeless. But you're also feeling ready for change, which is why you're here. It's common to feel like our thoughts and emotions are in a confusing and tangled knot, whether we have experienced trauma, challenging family dynamics, relationship issues, depression, anxiety, and/or other mental health challenges. What I can do is help you untangle the knot one thread at a time, make sense of these parts, and understand their origins and connections. Most importantly, together we can start to weave a new pattern that suits you, so you feel empowered to live an authentic and fulfilling life.

Jackson has gained a unique cultural awareness of the family dynamics and relationships, particularly within the African American community.
Culturally Competent Therapy specializes in building trust and a therapeutic alliance with their clients, so they are prepared to do the work. Clients, often including licensed therapists, feel accepted to be themselves in a safe environment. Individualized tailored approaches include culturally sensitive cognitive-behavioral and psychodynamic approaches to treatment that may challenge the client's belief system. I enjoy helping clients of all backgrounds discover the root of their problems and understanding the value of cultural factors such as family, race, socio-economic status, work/career demands, and integration of faith.

Being human is weird and messy. Learning to live with our own thoughts and our internal narratives can be exhausting. I work well with clients addressing concerns related to anxiety, grief, burnout, relational challenges, adult family dynamics, work life balance, feelings of overwhelm, and depression. I have experience working with other health professionals on their own mental health journeys. I enjoy working with "overachievers" and "people pleasers" who are interested in living a life beyond their resume and reconnecting with themselves. I also enjoy supporting clients rebuilding life post brain injury and stroke.

They are children, teenagers, and adults and present with anxiety, depression, adjustment disorders, borderline personality disorder, bipolar disorder, relationship and family problems, Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), school problems, and oppositional-defiant disorder. They all share a common need to be heard, empowered, and guided on the path of recovery. I provide evidence-based treatments tailored to the needs of my clients. I focus on strengths and capabilities rather than "illness."

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
