As a Licensed Marriage and Family therapist, I have over 20 years experience in the area of grief and loss, relationship issues, depression, anxiety, women's issues, adolescent issues, and other life challenges.
Grief and loss can leave you feeling shattered, as though you will never experience joy again. Life losses take many forms: The loss of a loved one, suicide loss, life transitions, loss of a relationship, physical losses, psychological losses, loss from trauma, financial losses, loss of a pet, loss from natural causes, and so on. It's difficult knowing where to turn for help during these times. Finding someone to help you navigate your grief journey is important to your healing and wholeness. I will provide the help you are looking for in a safe and supportive setting, as you walk through life's struggles.

* I am no longer accepting new clients* I believe the most profound change occurs within relationships. Whether that be the therapeutic relationship, a relationship with yourself, a partner, parent, child, or family member, relationships in all their forms have the ability to foster new ways we see and interact with ourselves and others. While relationships impact us, they do not define us. Each individual carries the strength within them to make the change they wish to see.

I’m Natasha (“Nat”), a compassionate, engaged, and personable Licensed Couples & Family Therapist; trained in Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT), with a systemic, attachment-based, culturally-sensitive, and trauma-informed lens for couples, individuals and families.
Have you just been feeling every kind of ‘stuck’ these days — be it in your relationships , and/or, within yourself internally lately? Longing to feel for the first time or, to come back to that fruitful, energizing, and wholesome place we feel when we experience total emotional security? Do you long to reconnect with yourself or a loved one again but feel a guard or emotional block within your dynamic that, try as you might just feels like a continual cycle of the same communication barriers, misinterpretations and inaccurate assumptions from one another each time you attempt to repair or have your side feel seen/heard?

My areas of expertise are adolescents and adults working on feelings of anxiety, depression, and mood regulation due to traumatic experiences, life stage transitions, and difficulty with primary support systems (family, friends, etc).
I utilize humor, metaphors, and experiential activities to help you develop the ability to engage in the present moment so you can decide whether a behavior is consistent with your values. Through acceptance and mindfulness practices, I identify "how" you think about experiences to help create flexibility in moving toward personal growth and development.

No one is an island. People need people to feel connected and lead fulfilling lives. Let me help you do the same. Here at Serenity Counseling Services, we believe in supporting our clients through fostering authentic connection, establishing direction with values and not merely goals, and restoring meaning and purpose to the lives of clients and their families.

I work with all types of relationships — the one with yourself, your partner or your entire family.
Human beings are wired for connection. That means that we spend the entirety of our lives seeking and maintaining relationships — both with ourselves and with others. When these relationships go awry, we can often find ourselves feeling alone and helpless. The pains from the past and the uncertainties of life can leave us feeling stuck and unsure of how to move forward. Sound familiar?

As a result I have extensive experience with severe mood and personality disorders, substance use and family systems.
Finding the right support shouldn’t be so difficult. It can be really challenging just to identify all of the relevant factors in why we seek treatment. When we are ready to make change because something is not working, there is not always a simple answer or one intervention. Often we need to look from multiple perspectives and approach things in different ways to solve life’s complicated issues.

Looking at your personal story in the larger context of your family, your ancestry, and the times and culture we live in, you will come to understand your suffering and your particular wounds in ways that uncover their deeper meaning and lead to lasting transformation.
You are unique in the challenges you face and in your gifts. Whether you suffer from anxiety, depression, an unrelenting sense of despair, low self-esteem, are hyper-critical of yourself, feel disconnected from life or joyless, are frustrated with work or school, have problems in your relationships, or suffer with PTSD, your experience is particular to you. I will help you discover the underlying dynamics of your symptoms and patterns in ways that allow you to transform them. Rather than merely "fixing" a problem or “fixing” yourself, you will learn how to listen to and tend what troubles you.

I have a unique understanding of a multitude of recovery programs including the 12 step process. I have strived to learn how best to integrate these concepts which have helped so many with psychotherapy and marriage and family therapy. I have spent the last seven years working with individuals and families suffering from substance abuse, behavioral health, anger, and severe mental health issues. By enlisting and encouraging the partners, parents and siblings into the therapeutic process, the weave of all family members are able to find their voice and begin to work on healthy family dynamics.

The issues which I enjoy working with the most are those related to relationships and family dynamics. One of the areas of most interest to me is working with individuals who are coming out of a relationship with a partner who had narcissistic personality traits. I became licensed as a marriage and family therapist in 1998 and have worked as a family therapist in substance abuse treatment programs, residential treatment programs for children and adolescents, and residential treatment programs for women. I also work with many individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and trauma.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
