In sessions, I utilize integrative knowledge regarding the impact that neurological development, prenatal history, childhood experiences, family relationships and personal connections have on a person's current emotional well being.
Life can be stressful and overwhelming at times. We all need a place where we can go and process our feelings and experiences in a non-judgemental environment with someone we trust. With over 20 years of clinical experience, I have assisted clients and their families with many different challenges including divorce, grief and loss, trauma, abuse, depression, anxiety, sensory processing challenges and more. My passion is helping adults to better understand their thoughts, behaviors and choices. My current practice focuses on assisting individuals to shift their emotions and energy into a more positive, peaceful state of being.

Things that we are to embarrassed to talk to friends about or involve friends or family.
I come from a community mental health background. Therefore I have worked with many situations and people. I have also spent the last couple of years working in helping people who are in crisis resolve their problems and restore their hope. Often helping them to identify their strengths. I have worked with adolescents struggling with life events and self harming behaviors. Couples counseling, geriatric counseling, and a great deal with trauma and past abuse.

I use a relational lens to view the bigger picture of how an individual, couple or family unit learn to treat themselves and others.
Do you and your spouse or partner need to talk to someone? Often finding a person to talk to is the first step in making a positive change in your life. Emotions are complex and can overwhelm your ability to make sense of the many facets of what makes you unique and striving for connection. I work with individuals, couples and families who may be struggling with personal hardships or relationship connections in their lives. We all encounter difficulties that can become too challenging for us to manage on our own and I am motivated to help explore how and why these have affected you.

Trapped inside a life of depression and anxiety that doesn’t seem to have any escape? You find that your energy and motivation for life has diminished. You feel isolated and alone even though you have family and friends close to you. The voice you thought you had seems as though no one really hears it. You feel as though you are being ignored. Wanting to emerge from this life of torment as an empowered hopeful person is now your priority. The question is, where do you start in order to achieve this feat?

I am a pre-licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Candidate.
For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to help others. Active listening, being empathetic, and showing compassion for others during tough times has always come naturally to me. I strive to bring these natural strengths, as well as the tools I have learned throughout my time as a student, to give the best possible care to each of my clients/families/couples. I believe that a client should be able to leave each therapy session with a greater understanding and self-awareness of how they can navigate through their lives.

I specialize in working with people who have experienced losses which are not always understood by others such as death of a pet, experiencing infertility, loss of relationships, strained family relationships, or grieving a loss that is yet to come.
Have you experienced a loss and are feeling alone, like no one really understands what you are going through? Grief is an experience that profoundly impacts all who experience it. Yet when you experience a loss that most people do not understand, it is also isolating, lonely, and confusing. You go through all the same impacts of any loss experience and yet it feels like everyone wants you to move on or they say things like “it could have been worse” or “it wasn’t that big of a deal”, minimizing your experience. Whatever the story of your loss, and whatever you have heard about your loss, your pain is real and it is valid.

I have been a child and family therapist for the past 20 years.
You have within you, right now, everything you need to deal with whatever the world can throw at you. Whether you have experienced small setbacks or major traumas, you are influenced by memories and past experiences, and this can impact your current self. I believe in creating a safe therapeutic environment in which clients can be vulnerable enough to explore what is within themselves.

There was no instruction manual when your child joined your family, but we are here to help guide and support through the tough times so that your kiddo can experience more joy.
If you have found your way here, it is likely that your child is struggling. From behaviors that make you want to scream to major life events or losses, we have seen it all. The good news is that you are not alone! Most children struggle with intense emotions and challenging behaviors at some point in their development because emotional processing skills are not innate, but instead have to be learned. We are here to facilitate the learning of those skills in a way that is completely individual to your child's needs, challenges, and strengths.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
