Working in residential treatment for 14 years and private practice for 7 years, I have experience in working with abuse, neglect, dual diagnosis, family issues, adolescent and young adults issues, addiction, depression, anxiety and behavioral problems.
If you can change your thoughts, you can change your world! I believe learning how to challenge negative thoughts can greatly impact your mood and subsequent behaviors. I am passionate about helping others live the life they deserve! Unfortunately, past traumas, experiences and life circumstances change our perception and view of the world. Fear, depression, anxiety and mistrust can interfere with our ability to pursue dreams, aspirations and healthy relationships. I provide an environment where you can feel safe, encouraged and validated. Together we can develop appropriate therapeutic goals to help you move at your pace toward healing and change.

I help families and individuals communicate their needs to move towards the loving family or relationship that they envisioned.
As a parent, there is nothing that you wouldn't do for your child and their success. However, sometimes the day to day stress and demands of everyday life impact our relationships in a negative way. I have over 15 years experience working directly with children, adolescents, and families struggling with a variety of issues.

In addition to devoting two decades to the mental health profession, I have a family of my own.
When you have tried to resolve issues on your own, and things just aren't changing, it is time to seek professional help. Perhaps your or your significant other's past and unresolved issues are what is creating the distress; an inability to trust, to feel joy and happiness, to pursue dreams. It is important to seek help early on so that things do not worsen. Whether you are seeking marriage counseling, individual therapy, or therapy for your teen, I can help you get on track to a healthier more fulfilling life.

The healing process begins with choosing a therapist with whom you are comfortable. You may be overwhelmed by trying to manage problems, conflicts, personal performance, or transitions in your life, and find that the support of family and friends is not sufficient. My approach as a therapist is to provide a safe, supportive, and confidential environment, and to partner with my clients to not only alleviate the presenting symptoms, but also their underlying causes.

Struggling with addiction and feel rehab isn’t an option? Leaving your family, job, school and responsibilities for an extended period of time is not always needed to get yourself healthy and on track. If you or a loved one are struggling with addiction, I know the challenges of this lifestyle. Being caught in the cycle of addiction is hard--feelings of fear, failure, guilt, and shame. You may have tried stopping on your own, only to find yourself engaging in the same unhelpful behavior. Breaking this cycle alone is tough! Counseling may be more effective for you than rehab. I specialize in moderation & abstinence based approaches.

Knowing this, I will develop a safe space for you to build your own self compassion and insight by taking a more eclectic approach from various schools of thought including CBT, DBT, psychodynamic, family systems, trauma focused, EMDR, and more.
I strive to help individuals develop a greater relationship with themselves, improve their self confidence, and have an overall happier life. It's a privilege to share space with someone and to hear their story. For the past 10 years, I've worked in several practice settings where I've gained a working knowledge to help meet people where they're at and assist them in healing and finding freedom. I continue to develop my knowledge to assist others in processing trauma, building self esteem, and improving their life styles.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
