As an experienced licensed professional, I believe that in order to experience growth and development one must commit to the process by being open minded and consistent. I specialize in working with individuals (adolescents and adults) who are experiencing anger, depression, anxiety, family issues, and conflicts at home and at the workplace. We will work together through the process and rest assured, you will be doing this in a non-judgmental environment with ample support. While none of us can change the past, we can learn from it and make thoughtful, positive decisions that will shape our future.

A positive approach with genuine feedback is offered based on patient and family goals.
Which therapist is the right fit for you? Someone you trust and provides confidence of being able to meet your needs is the most important ingredient in my line of work. Navigating pitfalls of life and relations doesn't have to be a puzzle. Worrying about the future and thinking of the past can keep us from living. I enjoy witnessing the potentials of others I have the opportunity to work with come alive. Learning skills to navigate the challenges life brings our way is quite a relief. Seeing people meet their goals and grow beyond what they imagined is a realistic outcome for those who choose to enter therapy.

Hi, I'm Christy, a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist. I help individuals who are struggling to overcome painful memories learn how to make peace with the past so you can move forward with your life. I enjoy assisting individuals in overcoming depression, anxiety and trauma and am trained in EMDR. As a trauma-informed therapist, my approach to therapy is very gentle and person-centered. Instead of considering “what’s wrong with you?” I’m more interested in learning about what happened to you that brought you to the point of seeking a therapist.

I have experience working in several treatment modalities including play therapy, individual therapy, and family therapy.
Does it feel like no matter what you try, your child is still having behavioral problems at home and school? Are you always worrying and find it hard to relax? Are you struggling with feelings of sadness and not having as much fun engaging in your favorite pastimes? Do you feel like you have tried everything to solve your problems and would like some new ideas and additional support to move forward?

It can be hard to be a good parent and spouse, to meet the expectations of friends, colleagues and family, all while trying to meet our own needs. So many of us feel lost, unfulfilled and disconnected. I provide couples and individuals the support and consistency necessary to thrive. Helping them to recognize their strengths, build confidence in who they are, and develop tools and increased awareness to create lasting growth. Through my training and education, I strongly believe the therapeutic relationship is the most important factor in facilitating change.

My approach is humanistic, client-centered, and framed by compassion. My focus is on fostering an open, supportive therapeutic environment that welcomes curiosity, and encourages clients to try on new patterns of thinking and behavior. Making even gentle changes takes effort and practice; no one wants to feel discouraged or stuck in a painful place, and I like to honor that wish to decrease distress and find greater contentment.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
