I utilize Attachment Theory to understand deeper issues of family of origin.
In my 18 years of practice, I've had the honor for helping many couples, as well as individuals with depression, anxiety and trauma. If you repeatedly fight over the similar things and feel disconnected in your relationship, I can help you! I am trained in Gottman's Method and love to work with couples to decrease disconnection and deepen intimacy. EMDR training gives me effective tools for treating depression, anxiety and trauma. I am also passionate to help second generation Asian Americans, bridging the cultural/generational gap between first and second generation. 我會說中文.

I will join with you to establish short-term or long-term treatment goals based on your expressed needs. I do believe that our history has contributed to who we are today. I take the time to learn about your family of origin and significant events from the past, while focusing on how this impacts your life now. Awareness of patterns is especially helpful in breaking cycles of unhealthy behavior. My approach to both individual and couples therapy is attachment-based. The ability to connect with others while maintaining a clear sense of ourselves is a focus in therapy.

You're entirely powerless. You've begun isolating from your family. The shame is so deep that you're afraid to look them in the eye. They'll surely see the heavy secret you've been carrying. You've tried to be "good enough" for him, but the cycle of emotional abuse and manipulation is never-ending. You've begun to question your sanity. You made excuses for their behavior, his "moods". You've changed yourself to appease him and lost yourself in the process. You no longer recognize the woman in the mirror with her sad and tired eyes. You've disconnected from you friends and the things you once loved. You've lost who you are.

As an experienced licensed professional, I believe that in order to experience growth and development one must commit to the process by being open minded and consistent. I specialize in working with individuals (adolescents and adults) who are experiencing anger, depression, anxiety, family issues, and conflicts at home and at the workplace. We will work together through the process and rest assured, you will be doing this in a non-judgmental environment with ample support. While none of us can change the past, we can learn from it and make thoughtful, positive decisions that will shape our future.

I treat a number of mental health disorders, and provide a neutral ground to individuals, families, children, and couples. Parenting is not an easy road to navigate. Traumatic events can feel paralyzing. I am passionate in working through trauma to help an individual to find their inner strength, and happiness again.

My educational background includes a MA in Marriage and Family Therapy from Hope International University, and a B.
As the parent of a struggling child or teen, you may find yourself wondering what you can do to help them feel better. Adolescents are facing unique challenges that can feel overwhelming like social media, bullying, self-esteem issues, anxiety and depression. Not to mention some of the difficulties you may have faced as a family, like adoption, divorce, death of a loved one, or a traumatic event. You can see that your child is struggling, but they won’t even talk to you or they don’t have the language to communicate their big feelings to you. How do you help your child when you are not sure where to start? Well I am here to help.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
