My approach is eclectic; I primarily follow the cognitive behavioral model but combine client-centered, emotion-focused, and family systems practices as well as other approaches appropriate for your needs and goals.
My experience is primarily with children and teenagers, but I have branched out into serving adults as well. I specialize in the treatment of mood and anxiety disorders, especially those interwoven with experiences of trauma or abuse. I am passionate about learning about my clients and enjoy working with honest, authentic, open-minded clients who participate fully in sessions and work along with me to uncover, move through, and heal from the pain they have experienced in their lives. I use my own life experiences to relate to clients and offer them unconditional empathic support and guidance to meet the goals we establish together.

I also have extensive training and experience with LBGTQ related issues, including but not limited to areas related to questioning, sexual orientation and gender identity, coming-out, family relationships, generational differences, multiple-minority identities, workplace issues, and transitioning.
In Psychotherapy, it is the relationship between the patient and the therapist that allows for the patient to search for understanding into the nature of their difficulties. It is within the safety, confidentiality and understanding acceptance that the patient is encouraged to reveal intimate parts of themselves that allow the therapist to identify characteristic problems and patterns of behavior. Seemingly unexplainable behavior, thought patterns and symptoms turn out to have identifiable meanings beyond the awareness of the patient. Psychodynamic psychotherapy is aimed at personality changing goals and symptom relieving efforts. The patient is always in control of the therapeutic process.

This experience has allowed me to provide evidence-based child, individual, group, and family interventions in a child welfare setting as well in an inpatient and/or outpatient mental health setting.
You may be angry, anxious, depressed, grieving, or just feeling overwhelm by life struggles. Taking that first step to seek out a counselor is the most important step to recovery. Regardless of what your struggles are, I believe that counseling can help. I cannot promise that the process will be easy but hope that in the end you will believe the work was worth it.

I have a PhD in Family Therapy from St.
I enjoy working with individuals, couples, and families who are motivated to see change in their lives. I believe that humor is an important part of the therapeutic process. I want people to feel safe in my office while also understanding that it is ok to not always need to feel everything in a way that hurts. Growth can be scary but it does not have to always be painful.

I understand that beginning therapy is not easy and takes many people out of their comfort zone. I believe in a warm and nurturing environment that allows clients to work at their own pace. Your journey is your own, and I offer a non-judgmental approach with each person I work with. I enjoy meeting with individuals, couples, and families. I have specialized training in Internal Family Systems (IFS). This model allows clients the opportunity to get to know each "part" of themselves and provides a way to regulate emotions and improve problem solving skills.

My areas of expertise are: Youth ages 5-18, ADHD, Anxiety, Family Changes (divorce/separation), grief/loss, social/emotional/behavioral concerns.
Each person & child are incredibly unique individuals. As adults, our job is to provide children with tools so they may blossom into the most successful version of themselves. Adults, though, may also need support in their lives! Being a former college athlete & high school athletic coach, I am also extremely passionate about helping high school & collegiate student athletes elevate their craft, manage performance anxiety, & experience fulfillment across all settings. Together, we will work to identify goals related to you or your child's overall well-being & develop strategies to overcome any obstacles that may arise along the way.

I do not focus on any one specific population to serve. I believe that everyone needs someone to talk to and process what they are experiencing in their lives. In general I realize that most people I serve are working on rebuilding, repairing, and relearning how to manage connections to others.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
