I am open minded and a free thinker. I listen without judgement, but listen with a mindful ear to help you sort through “stuff.” Life can be difficult to unpack and with specific attention to you, your thoughts, concerns and routines I can help enhance your way of living by thinking of ways, together to make your circumstance better. Most times it truly can be helpful to have someone else who can observe and listen. That’s me!

Some life changes are causing you to feel flooded with emotions and over-thinking your every move; your mind is stuck in a cycle and your body is in a constant state of alert. Sometimes you seem to be anchored down by a past experience(s) that keeps tinting your daily life. You are filled with worrisome thoughts, self-doubt, and your relationships have started to suffer, at home and work, to the point you cannot enjoy what you used to anymore. Those past experiences seem impossible to leave behind as many things from now keep bringing you back to them and how you felt in that moment. You simply don’t feel like yourself.

Are you suffering from the end of a relationship? A job? Do you feel like you are in crisis, or no longer feel like yourself? Maybe you’re realizing that your life as it is in this moment is not working for you. Perhaps you feel alone, lost, or at a loss for what to do. Congratulations on taking the first step to finding relief and taking control. Life is too short to surrender to bad relationships, hold grudges, let trauma control us, or to be anxious or angry all the time. You may feel stuck, but there is hope.

I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor for over 20 years. In that time I have worked with men, women, teens, and families on a wide variety of issues. Sometimes that work simply involved helping them through a particular incident or life change that overwhelmed them. Other times our work together centered around longstanding issues of depression, anxiety, trauma, and addiction. With years of both institutional and outpatient experience, I enjoy helping people move from a place they can no longer tolerate to a place where they feel more happy and effective. I also provide clinical supervision for LPC residents.

All who walk the journey of life come to hurdles, challenges, and moments of joy. It can become overwhelming when the hurdles and challenges appear to outweigh the moments of joy. Through working together, we can tackle the challenges of the past by allowing space to process what has occurred, learn from the past ,and move forward with increased awareness of the present moment.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
