Over 40 years I've been dealing with family, career, and relationship issues or the deeper unsettling part of each of us.
It's hard for anyone to talk about personal issues. Anyone brave enough to do this launches themselves into a life giving process that increases the possibilities of their lives forever. It brings about unbelievable changes opening possibilities never thought of. It's hard work. It's scary. But it teaches one to live effectively with what life has brought and create changes that enhance the life that is. It's a journey into the good and the bad that takes a person to new heights. It's an exploration that creates love and light in a life.

In addition to my experience as a counselor, in the social work arena, I advocate for individuals & families to facilitate the movement by the entire family toward a state of increased health and cohesion.
I see individuals as capable of living a full and joyful life. I am here to facilitate the removal of those blocks, caused by past traumas, and / or difficult life transitions, that might be getting in your way. As we work together from a compassionate, strength-based perspective to remove the negative blocks (emotional and mental pain) from your path, life becomes easier and more joyful. As you heal mentally, emotionally and physically you will begin to attract those experiences and relationships into your life that are healthy, more fulfilling & enriching. My Master's degree in Counseling has prepared me for this work.

We work with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, trauma, substance use, disordered eating, family dynamics, and LGBTQIA+ issues.
Cutting edge trauma therapy that uproots symptoms at the source - our clients come to us after years of therapy that didn't get them to where they wanted to go. They're exhausted, fed up, and sometimes feel like they're broken. This is because their treatment only addressed 20% of the brain - and not even the part where mental health symptoms are born. Our trauma treatment specialists use innovative modalities to work directly with the brainstem to renegotiate our nervous system responses. Join our free site membership to receive weekly guided videos and educational resources.

My passion for counseling and working closely with people and their stories has always been a part of what drives me. I am particularly passionate about working closely with those who experience trauma of any kind as well as the affects that come along with it such as anxiety, depression, family issues, relationship issues etc. I specialize in working with women, in particular, to help them see that no matter where their story has led them to until now, that their story matters regardless and healing can be found in each chapter.

I also work with traumatic experiences, anxiety and mood concerns, eating concerns, and relationship and family concerns.
I believe everyone can benefit from therapy. Whether you come to explore your identity, your relationships, a life-changing event, or just the feeling that something is “off,” I believe powerful change can happen in the context of a safe and supportive therapeutic relationship. It can be so difficult to seek out a therapist, and I understand you may have had negative experiences with therapy in the past. I appreciate the inner strength that allowed you to reach out and find this page. Together, we can explore patterns in your life to help illuminate your present and future.

I provide both individual and family therapy, so that my support comes in where it’s needed most.
Overwhelmed students and young adults often wonder, “Will someone have the experience to help me through this without making me feel even worse than I do about the way things have turned out?” or “ If I can just get through these next crucial years everything might be ok, but for now I am not sure how or even if that can happen.” 13-24 year olds are faced with a challenging game of constant decision making, competitive peer environments, and finish lines that appear to move further away. Families and loved ones also get swept up in the pressure of watching young people in their lives encounter diverse and time sensitive obstacles.

I enjoy working with children, adolescents, and adults who are experiencing difficulties such as anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, behavioral problems, and social concerns. I use a cognitive-behavioral treatment approach, with family and school consultation as important components of the treatment. Consultation with physicians, psychiatrists, and other treatment providers is also welcomed. I believe in using a collaborative problem-solving approach in which we work as a team to develop an intervention plan.

I am a clinician at The Downtown Counseling Center, where I also serve as executive director, and previously provided attachment-based family therapy at the Mary Ainsworth Attachment Clinic.
No matter who you are, life is hard. The difficulties of day-to-day life often put us in a bind: On one hand, the stressors are too big and too painful to ignore. And yet, while we may wish for and even utilize the support of those around us, for a whole host of reasons, we often resort to going it alone. In these moments, therapy can be a promising new option: a confidential relationship rooted in honesty, understanding, and compassion. It is my belief that such a relationship can provide a fresh start: a new orientation towards our problems and a new way of experiencing the world we live in.

Together with the client, I seek to establish a new lens for viewing the context of their family of origin, peer culture and the larger contexts of community and culture.
I am trained in EMDR for relief of trauma and both behavioral and psychodynamic/talking therapies which emphasize positive habits, good health and personal insight. Any change starts from within and sometimes we all need another perspective to grasp the whole picture so that problems or obstacles can be sensibly, sensitively and effectively handled. I work from a strengths-based orientation whereby the talents, skills, and interests can be identified. So we go from there, to where the individual learns to utilize those strengths in resolving problems, conflicts, stressors as well as finding sources of comfort, competence and confidence.

First and foremost I want to praise you for taking the first step in making a positive change in your life (as I'm well aware this is NOT easy)! Here are issues/concerns I best target that can help along your journey: anger control, anxiety, blended family issues, depression, low self-esteem/worth, lying/manipulative, miscommunication, negative thinking, oppositional defiant, parenting, peer/sibling conflict, and the inability to see perspectives different from their own. Again these shifts are NOT easy to make so please know I do my best to assist with as much ease as possible :)

Do you focus on everyone else's needs except your own? Do you find it difficult to put yourself as a priority, always putting your children, work, spouse, parents, friends, or family above your own needs and concerns? Do you struggle with being self-critical and a perfectionist? Has this ever resulted in symptoms of depression, anxiety, compulsive overeating, exhaustion, and/or alcohol abuse in your life?

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
