I have a strong cognitive behavioral background, but also employ facets of mindfulness, reality, and family systems approaches as appropriate to meet the needs of my clients.
I have been providing outpatient therapy to individuals, couples, and families since 2019; prior to that, I worked as an intensive in-home counselor and ABA therapist for ten years while I obtained my master's degree and completed my residency. As much as I enjoy seeing my clients in person, I have strengthened my ability to provide therapy virtually, applying various resources and maintaining a strong rapport through my non-judgmental and open-minded approach.

I practice CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy), TF-CBT (trauma-focused CBT), ABA (applied behavioral analysis), solution-focused therapy, and structural and strategic family therapy. I love learning about neurobiology and the effects that stress has on the brain. Interpersonally, a client coming into session with me can expect to encounter a warm, compassionate, and encouraging soul who has a dry sense of humor and tends to address problems in a straightforward manner.

Over the past 20 years, I have helped children, adolescents, young adults and adults reach their full potential in many areas of their lives - school, career, health, family, and social settings. While working with individuals, I often incorporate their family or other close relationships to both identify problems and create effective solutions. A trusted therapy environment is often the best place to chart specific goals for a healthier and happier life.

I'm here to help you grow and change on your passage through life! Sometimes people have challenges to start with like thinking differently, or a difficult family. We may have questions about whether we still fit into a social or religious group. Challenges are harder if depression or anxiety hold us back or if we feel like we're stuck. Finding an empathetic, experienced therapist can be a connection to taking you out of isolation and uncovering your innate ability to change. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I have done my own work to grow and I look forward to helping you!

I work with children, adolescents, and adults experiencing a variety concerns, involving mood disorders, ADHD and behavioral issues, sexuality and gender exploration, identity development, family of origin issues, interpersonal conflicts, and unresolved trauma.
Life tends to throw us curve balls. With all of our energy spent juggling obligations, responsibilities, and managing daily stresses, it's easy to wake up one day and realize that you just feel "stuck." Making the decision to begin therapy can be difficult, but it's the first step towards regaining control of your life. Whether you are feeling overwhelmed, experiencing relationship difficulties, or just want a different perspective on whatever is holding you back, I'm here to help you navigate and overcome these challenges. Every person's situation is unique. I do not treat the therapeutic process as "one-size-fits all."

I have more than twenty years of experience working with children, adolescents, families, and adults, in outpatient and inpatient settings, and in homes throughout the state.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
