I provide Individual, group, and marriage and family therapy.
I have enjoyed providing support in mental health for over 20 years now. We all face moments of distress and experience unplanned circumstances in our lives that we simply are not prepared for. It can be difficult to navigate our way through all of the thoughts that may come up or the different levels of pain we tend to experience. I know that reaching out for help can be challenging. We all have our own healing journeys and I am grateful to be able to help individuals with discovering their own path to healing, growth and change.

Some of the specific concerns I can assist in addressing are Anxiety, Depression, childhood trauma, Substance Abuse, and Foster and Adoptive Family transitions/issues.
Emotional safety and the therapeutic alliance are of upmost importance to me and the work we do together. That’s why I incorporate many different treatment techniques and utilize a variety of therapeutic approaches to meet clients where they are. In the first sessions, I encourage my clients to define their wants, needs, and boundaries while I assist them in setting their own goals. I believe that therapy should be individualized to accommodate the differences in each of us that showcase our resilience and beauty. By allowing the clients to set their own goals, I hope to encourage them to feel heard and empowered.

In our lives we can struggle as individuals and within our family systems, regardless of whether we are children, teens, or adults. I believe therapy is a way to take time to focus and challenge beliefs around the different stressors in each individual’s life.  Stress is a part of everyday life, there is no way to avoid it. I believe that with empathy and therapeutic support individuals can face these stressors head on and work to improve their quality of life, inner strength, and happiness. Therapy should be a safe space to explore and challenge uncomfortable thoughts and feelings through compassion and empathy.

There is hope! If you partner with me, I will work with you and your family to find research focused solutions based on your child's individual learning style and personality.
As parents, we all want our children to be happy well adjusted individuals who are taking steps toward reaching their full potential. So it goes without saying that one of the most difficult things to do is to watch our children struggle in school and feel powerless in knowing how to help them. If your child is performing below grade level or exhibiting behavioral problems at home and school, these constant struggles may be evoking feelings of intense sadness, anxiety, and frustration in both you and your child and negatively impacting other areas of both your lives.

I have extensive experience providing children, adolescents, family, and marriage therapy services.
In my 20 years of practice, one statement has guided the core of my therapeutic relationships: "You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them" (Maya Angelou). As a direct, supportive, practical therapist, I seek to help you shift from "just surviving" to "actively thriving" in your life. Use of sound, evidenced-based theory coupled with unconditional positive regard helps you to achieve balance in your life, becoming empowered to be the writer in your life story. You have value no matter what obstacles you may have faced.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
