I work with individuals, couples, and families experiencing issues such as depression, anxiety, relationship problems, trauma, and addictions. At the foundation of my work is the belief in the inherent goodness of others and the understanding that people are doing the best that they can with the tools that they have at their disposal. I employ the latest psychotherapeutic techniques that will allow us to build a strategy to create a happier you.

I have a wide and extensive background working with children, adolescents, and adults providing therapeutic individual, group, and/or family psychotherapy with varying mental health diagnosis. I have worked in a variety of settings to include, but not limited to: schools, hospitals, jails, private practices, and community settings. I provide a warm environment to encourage a client to openly express their thoughts/feelings so that we can focus on settings goals, identifying feelings and patterns, developing healthy/positive attitudes and behaviors, and problem solving.

I was born and raised in Lynchburg, Virginia, but have had the amazing opportunity to live and work all over the country including: Washington, DC; New Orleans, LA; Miami, FL and Boulder, CO. Lynchburg is by far my favorite place and I was happy to return home in 2005. I enjoy cooking, gardening, reading and spending time with my family and friends. I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). I graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in 2003 with an undergraduate degree in Psychology and a Masters degree in Community Counseling with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Counseling.

I have been in the helping field for over 30 years. I have experience in clinical practice as well as being a university professor. My belief is that life is not a straight line nor sequential. However, with the right support, you can find solutions and contentment. I will facilitate and empower you on your journey. While I firmly believe in discussing the origin of the issues, I am also practical and do believe in solutions. As such, together we implement tools while continuing to explore the issues deeper. Dr. Naharia Holt-Elliott is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Certified Substance Abuse Counselor, Nationally Certified Counselor, and Approved Clinical Supervisor (LPC, CSAC, NCC, ACS) in the state of Virginia with more than 10 years of experience. She is also a mother and Army veteran who specializes in helping adult clients and families that are having difficulties managing stress and anxiety, struggling with coping skills, anxiety, depression, sexual abuse, combat, substance abuse, family and relational issues.

I have a dynamic yet relaxed style of therapy that is emotion and interpersonally-based. Through our shared therapeutic relationship, my aim is to foster a safe, compassionate, non-judgmental space in which we'll explore your concerns. Marriage counseling is my area of specialty. I'm a marriage and family therapist who has made relationship dynamics my exclusive focus and expertise. I specialize in working with couples who have experienced infidelity in their marriage, where one partner has had an affair. I also work with communication blockages, fighting all the time, lack of intimacy, and loss of the "loving feeling" for each other. Cardinal Family Counseling is a team of experienced Licensed Counselors and Residents in Counseling providing therapy to children, teens, adults, couples, and families. We help clients address anxiety, depression, relationship/marital difficulties, grief & loss difficulties, parental separation/divorce, trauma/PTSD, social phobias, peer relationship and social skills difficulties, and behavioral Issues.
