I am trained in individual and family therapy, and Rapid Resolution Therapy (R).
An ideal client will call to address trauma, demoralization, and anxiety, because the joys and satisfactions that seem to be present in the lives of others elude them. They say their best efforts at improving matters fall short. I may suggest that many psychotherapy patients have downloaded flawed software during their formative years, before discernment (i.e., filters) protect us from flawed information about ourselves and how the world works. I explain that psychotherapy and life coaching can provide a means by which this software is de-bugged in a warm and trusting relationship.

My expertise is in working with the LGBTQ+ community, adults who live with addiction, anxiety, trauma, family-of-origin and boundary-setting exploration.
Do you often feel anxious or negative toward yourself? Do you want to create better relationships or feel more confident? Are there parts of yourself that you haven't explored and you're nervous about diving in? If any of these experiences resonate with you, I could be a great fit for you. We all need validation and a space to be entirely authentic and unedited, but also to be challenged to dig deeper and grow. I will offer you that space to create a stronger, healthier relationship with yourself. My experience has allowed me to work with a wide variety of therapeutic issues and I am passionate about guiding people toward healing.

I am trained to work within family dynamics, marriage, partnerships, poly-relationships, as well as individual clients.
Everyone has the capacity to change. I love working with those who are at the beginning of their path, regardless of what their destination is. The starting is often more important than the ending. Desire for change often leads to specific goals which we can work on together. I offer couples counseling intensives, alongside another therapist, for those in need of a more focused and concentrated format. Each intensive (2-4hrs long) can equal several months of marriage counseling, and that this format allows for greater exploration & resolution, in a significantly shorter amount of time.

Strategic Family Techniques inform my work with couples and families.
‘What’s your story?’ I ask because the stories we tell ourselves and about ourselves can offer tremendous insight. Narrative counselors like myself explore client stories for behaviors, expectations, perceptions, and values which fail to align in effective ways. We believe these incongruences are responsible (both directly and indirectly) for the miseries and hardships that prompt therapy. The work of therapy involves deconstructing what doesn’t make sense and reimagining what remains. I enjoy working with anyone whose story feels ‘stuck’ and wishes to reimagine themselves anew.

We all find ourselves from time to time in need of guidance, expertise, and support from someone we trust. Engaging in treatment with a professional is at times the most efficient way of addressing what is not working. I offer individual, couples and family, consultation and/or psychotherapy with the goal of helping people get to a place in their lives where they can thrive.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
